As we move into 2025, Lexus maintains a somewhat subdued development strategy, opting not to rush product releases like some of its European rivals.
As of May 2025, Lexus has only introduced two new models: the mid-life update of the Lexus RZ 2026 in Brussels, Belgium, and the all-new generation of the Lexus ES at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025.
The much-anticipated next release is likely to be the mid-life update of the Lexus RX – the brand’s flagship SUV. However, the launch timing may be pushed back to later this year or even early 2026.
Based on digital renderings from the AutoYa YouTube channel, the updated RX will feature noticeable design changes to enhance its competitiveness against heavyweights such as the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
At the front, the 2026 Lexus RX is expected to sport a split headlight design. The LED daytime running lights are positioned above, while the main headlights are placed lower, creating a modern, tiered composition. The brand’s signature spindle grille has been redesigned to be more compact, divided into upper and lower halves, with the lower half blending seamlessly into the front bumper.
At the rear, the new RX is envisioned with sleek, full-width LED taillights that integrate the illuminated Lexus logo, a popular trend in luxury car design. The rear bumper has also been redesigned for a more robust and modern appearance.
In contrast to the significant exterior changes, the RX’s cabin is predicted to remain largely unchanged. The overall layout adheres to the brand’s signature “Tazuna” design philosophy. Updates primarily focus on enhancing the interior with new decorative details, materials, and color schemes to offer a refreshed experience for drivers and passengers.
In terms of powertrain, the Lexus RX mid-life update is expected to retain the current options, including conventional gasoline engines, self-charging hybrids, and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). This strategic decision makes sense as Lexus gradually transitions towards an electrified future while maintaining stability for their popular model.
