According to Carscoops, several Chinese automakers, including BYD and GAC, are venturing into the sports car and supercar arena with models such as the YangWang U9 and Aion Hyptec SSR. Great Wall Motors (GWM) is the next brand to join the supercar race.
While GWM has been significantly expanding its product range, it has so far focused primarily on crossovers, SUVs, and pickups. However, the Chinese automaker has recently revealed that it has been developing a supercar for the past five years, believing it can outperform the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
GWM’s CFO, Ms. Wu Huixiao, shared that their upcoming supercar will feature a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis. She attributed the delays in the project to the intricate process of perfecting the chassis.
The automaker has recruited racing experts from Europe to support the development process. When directly asked about the comparison between their supercar and the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, Ms. Wu Huixiao confidently stated that GWM’s first supercar will surpass its Italian rival while acknowledging the learning process from competitors in the same segment.
GWM’s commitment to competing with the Italian sports car maker was further emphasized by their chairman, Jack Wei, who was spotted driving a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, as reported by Carscoops.

CnEVPost revealed that one of the main reasons for the prolonged development time of GWM’s supercar was the cost factor. Ms. Wu Huixiao shared that GWM is determined to further reduce production costs to make their supercar competitively priced.
At Auto Shanghai 2025, GWM unveiled a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine that will power some of its future models. However, Carscoops believes that the Chinese automaker’s supercar will likely feature a different powertrain, although the exact type remains unknown.
