“President Trump’s Tesla: A Symbolic Rift with Elon Musk?”

Speculation abounds that President Trump is considering selling or giving away the red Tesla Model S he purchased earlier this year in March. This potential move signifies a notable fracture in the once-close relationship between Trump and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk.

The red Tesla Model S, valued at approximately $80,000, remains parked on the White House grounds, but according to AFP, Trump is contemplating selling or giving it away.

In March 2025, Tesla held a car showcase at the White House, presenting five electric vehicles for Trump to test drive. At the time, Trump expressed his support for the electric car maker and particularly for Elon Musk.

Soon after, the President reportedly used his personal funds to acquire the red Tesla Model S. Just last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and another senior aide were spotted in the electric car, as seen on their social media posts.

However, the electric car now symbolizes the fractured relationship between Trump and Musk, once a close ally of the White House.

On May 30, Elon Musk stepped down from his position as the head of the Department of Operational Efficiency (DOGE) after 130 days. This decision came amidst Musk’s public criticism of the Trump administration’s spending policies, which he believed could lead to uncontrolled budget deficits.

In response to Musk’s actions, Trump threatened to cut federal contracts with Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Musk subtly hinted on social media that Trump’s reelection chances could be impacted without his support.

If sold, Trump’s Tesla Model S could become a valuable political collectible. However, given the current tensions, it may also serve as a symbolic gesture of the White House’s new stance towards the tech industry.
