The Vietnamese automotive market witnessed a shift in sales dynamics in May 2025.
In the compact SUV segment, the Ford Territory surprised everyone by surpassing the Mazda CX-5 to take the lead, benefiting from inventory clearance programs ahead of an upgraded version.
Meanwhile, VinFast’s electric vehicle group continued its dominance with three models in the top 10 best-selling cars of the month
VinFast VF 5: 4,232 units sold
With 4,232 units sold, the VinFast VF 5, a compact electric SUV, continues to showcase its appeal and market dominance in the small electric vehicle segment in Vietnam. This model is currently priced at 529 million VND (including the battery).
VinFast VF 3: 3,950 units sold
Closely following is the VinFast VF 3, a mini electric SUV, with 3,950 units sold in May. With its compact design suited for urban areas and a price of only 299 million VND, the VF 3 is quickly creating a new segment in the Vietnamese market.
Ford Territory: 1,481 units sold
Ranking third in the top 10 best-selling cars of May is the Ford Territory, with 1,481 units sold. The impressive sales growth of this compact SUV can be attributed to inventory clearance programs as it prepares to welcome a new version. The car is currently offered in four versions, with prices ranging from 759 million to 889 million VND.
Mazda CX-5: 1,446 units sold
After a long reign at the top of the compact SUV segment, the Mazda CX-5 sold 1,446 units in May, just 35 units behind the Territory. However, this is still a positive result considering the overall market situation. The Mazda CX-5 is currently available in seven versions, priced from 749 million to 979 million VND.
VinFast VF 6: 1,393 units sold
While not experiencing the same strong growth as the VF 3 and VF 5, the VF 6 maintains stable sales and is one of the most popular electric vehicles today. In May, the VF 6 recorded 1,393 units sold. It is currently offered in two versions, priced at 689 million and 749 million VND, both including the battery.
Ford Ranger: 1,254 units sold
In May, the Ford Ranger recorded 1,254 units sold, marking the second consecutive month of decline. Although it remains the best-selling truck in its segment, it has dropped out of the top 5 best-selling cars of the month. The Ford Ranger is offered in multiple versions in Vietnam, with prices ranging from 669 million to 1.299 billion VND.
Toyota Vios: 1,148 units sold
The Toyota Vios is the only low-riding car in the top 10 best-sellers for May, with 1,148 units sold. After a challenging start, the recent upgrade has helped the Vios reclaim its leading position in the compact sedan segment. It is now available in three versions, priced from 458 million to 545 million VND.
Mitsubishi Xpander: 1,100 units sold
The Mitsubishi Xpander continues to show fluctuations in sales, with 1,100 units sold in May, significantly lower than its peak in February. Nonetheless, this MPV remains the top-selling small multi-purpose vehicle in its segment. The Xpander is offered in four versions, priced from 560 million to 698 million VND.
Toyota Yaris Cross: 1,073 units sold
The Toyota Yaris Cross sold 1,073 units in May, surpassing the Mitsubishi Xforce to become the second best-selling compact SUV in Vietnam, just behind the VinFast VF 6. This model is gradually establishing a solid position in the market. It is currently available in two versions, priced at 650 million and 765 million VND.
Toyota Corolla Cross: 885 units sold
Rounding out the top 10 best-selling cars in May is the Toyota Corolla Cross, with 885 units sold. While it didn’t make as big of a splash as its competitors in the same segment, this compact crossover maintains a steady appeal, partly due to the support for 100% registration fee applied to both versions currently on offer. In the Vietnamese market, the Toyota Corolla Cross is priced at 828 million and 913 million VND.
