The Mercedes-Maybach S680 Virgil Abloh Edition, one of the rarest and most valuable versions in the history of the three-pointed star brand, has just made a surprising appearance in the US with a completely new look: the “RS Edition”.
Virgil Abloh Edition is a tribute to the late Louis Vuitton Creative Director, Virgil Abloh, who collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to design concept cars with a fashion and art twist. With only 150 units produced globally, each Maybach S680 Virgil Abloh is a collector’s item, usually maintained in its original state.
However, one owner in the US decided to push the boundaries by taking this special Maybach to a workshop for a comprehensive exterior upgrade in the RS (Racing Style) fashion.
The first notable modification is the maximum lowering of the car’s air suspension, giving it an almost “ground-hugging” stance when parked. The original wheels have been replaced with custom-designed, large multi-spoke black gloss wheels, enhancing the sporty look while retaining the elegant spirit of Maybach.
The exterior transformation doesn’t stop there; the entire body has been repainted with a black metallic finish, replacing the iconic two-tone white-copper color scheme of the Virgil Abloh edition. Chrome details have also been reworked in black or carbon fiber for a more cohesive appearance.
In contrast to the exterior overhaul, the interior of this Mercedes-Maybach S680 Virgil Abloh Edition retains its original layout, featuring a light beige leather interior with exquisite stitching and high-quality wood trim. However, minor adjustments have been made to the floor mats, door sills, and interior lighting to harmonize with the vehicle’s new exterior.
According to the owner, the goal was to create a Maybach unlike any other, even though it was already a limited edition.
As images of the Maybach RS Edition spread on social media, the automotive community expressed mixed reactions. While some admired the owner’s bold vision, others lamented the extensive modifications made to a limited-edition vehicle.
Nonetheless, there’s no denying that the S680 RS Edition is one of the most unique Maybachs in the US right now, not just for its limited-edition status but also for the strong personality its owner has infused into every detail.
