In May 2025, members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) sold a total of 29,210 units, a slight decrease of 1.2% from the previous month. Meanwhile, Hyundai Thanh Cong sold 4,063 units, a 9.1% decline. On the other hand, VinFast sold an impressive 11,496 electric vehicles, exhibiting a growth of 19.8%. Thus, it’s no surprise that electric vehicles continue to dominate the top 10 best-selling cars in the Vietnamese market for May 2025.

Vietnam’s 10 Best-Selling Cars in May 2025 (in units)
Specifically, the “made in Vietnam” electric car, VinFast VF 5, topped the market with 4,232 units sold, achieving a growth rate of 13.4%. This success is attributed to its compact design, affordable price, adequate range, and sufficient features.
Closely following the VF 5 is its sibling from the same brand, the VinFast VF 3. This small electric SUV delivered a remarkable performance with 3,950 units sold, representing a 66.1% growth. Having entered the Vietnamese market in late 2024, the VF 3, along with the VF 5, has attracted a substantial number of individual customers to the VinFast brand. When considering the cumulative sales for the first five months of this year, the VF 3 emerges as VinFast’s best-selling model with 19,228 units sold.
Ranking third in the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam for May 2025 is the Ford Territory. This compact SUV sold 1,481 units, reflecting a 56.7% increase compared to the previous month. With this result, the Ford Territory becomes the best-selling internal combustion engine car in the Vietnamese market. Additionally, it outsold both the segment leader, Mazda CX-5, and its sibling, the Ford Ranger. This impressive performance can likely be attributed to the promotional program offering a 100% registration fee waiver for all four versions, amounting to a value of up to 90 million VND, during May 2025.
Ford Territory surpasses Ranger in sales for May 2025.
Positioned just behind the Ford Territory is its rival in the same segment, the Mazda CX-5. The Mazda offering was the choice of 1,446 domestic customers, reflecting a slight increase of 2.1%. However, the Mazda CX-5 has relinquished its position as the best-selling model in its segment to the Ford Territory.
The fifth spot in the top 10 goes to another electric SUV from VinFast, the VF 6. This small SUV recorded sales of 1,393 units in May, marking a 20.9% decline. Despite this drop, the VinFast VF 6 remains the best-selling model in the small SUV segment in Vietnam.
Next is the Ford Ranger, with sales of 1,254 units, reflecting an 8.1% decrease. While it still leads the pickup truck segment, the Ranger is no longer Ford’s top-selling model for May 2025. That title now belongs to the Ford Territory.
Ranking seventh in the top 10 is the Toyota Vios. This subcompact sedan from Toyota witnessed a growth of 48.5%, selling 1,148 units. Consequently, the Toyota Vios reclaimed its crown as the best-selling model in the subcompact sedan segment from its rival, the Honda City. Moreover, the Vios emerged as Toyota’s top-selling model in Vietnam for the previous month, surpassing the Yaris Cross.
Similar to April 2025, the Mitsubishi Xpander experienced a significant drop in the rankings for May, securing the eighth position. This small MPV sold 1,100 units, an increase of 13.1%. Nonetheless, the Mitsubishi Xpander retained its title as the best-selling MPV in Vietnam.
Trailing closely behind the Mitsubishi Xpander is the Toyota Yaris Cross. This small SUV sold 1,073 units, a slight decrease of 0.6%. Not only did it secure the second position in the small SUV segment, but the Toyota Yaris Cross also emerged as the runner-up in the Toyota family, following the Vios.
The remaining model in the top 10 is the Toyota Corolla Cross. Contrary to its sibling, the Yaris Cross, this small SUV exhibited a growth of 54.7%, selling 885 units. Thus, the Corolla Cross is the third best-selling model in the small SUV segment, after the VinFast VF 6 and the Toyota Yaris Cross.
It’s worth noting that Korean car models were notably absent from the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam for May 2025. Familiar names like the Hyundai Accent, Tucson, and Santa Fe did not make the cut. Instead, the top 10 comprised models from Vietnamese, Japanese, and American automakers.
