The Toyota Land Cruiser is entering the era of electrification with the new hybrid variant of the 300 Series. This new version features a more powerful hybrid powertrain than its current gasoline and diesel counterparts.

At the heart of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300’s new hybrid powertrain is a combination of a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine and a single electric motor. This duo delivers a total output of 457 horsepower and 790 Nm of peak torque. With these figures, it is the most powerful version of the Land Cruiser to date, matching the performance of the Lexus LX 700h, a luxury SUV that shares the same platform. All this power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

According to Toyota, this electrified powertrain has been developed with a focus on genuine off-road capability and high reliability. The electric motor ensures smooth and stable throttle response, even when navigating challenging terrain.

While full technical specifications have yet to be released, Toyota Australia has revealed that the hybrid version offers improved towing capacity over the diesel model. However, there is a slight drawback; the hybrid model has a smaller fuel tank capacity of 68 liters, compared to the 80 liters found in the conventional gasoline model.

In terms of design, the most noticeable change on the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid is the new front bumper and air intake design, characteristic of the VXR trim. The GR Sport variant does not feature these modifications, but both models proudly display the “457 TT” logo on the sides and “HEV” on the rear hatch, signifying the upgraded powertrain.
