As the summer travel season approaches, Vietnam’s automotive market is entering a busy shopping period. Many automakers are offering incentives to boost sales, and some 2024 models are being heavily discounted to clear inventory for new arrivals.
One common promotional strategy in Vietnam is to offer support with registration fees. In May, several car brands are offering 100% registration fee support.
Ford’s Pickup Trucks and SUVs
Ford Vietnam is offering a 100% registration fee waiver for customers purchasing the Ford Territory and the Wildtrak version of the Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Specifically, customers who complete the full payment process for the Ford Territory Titanium X, Sport, Titanium, and Trend versions, as well as the Ford Ranger Wildtrak during May, will be exempt from the 100% registration fee. The registration fee waiver amounts to 6% of the vehicle’s value for pickup trucks and 10% for passenger cars.
With prices ranging from 759 million to 889 million VND, this program helps Vietnamese customers save up to 76-89 million VND in on-road costs for the Ford Territory. For the Ford Ranger Wildtrak, the 100% registration fee support translates to a value of nearly 59 million VND.

The American automaker is also offering a promotion equivalent to 50% of the registration fee for the Ford Ranger Sport version, saving Vietnamese customers around 26 million VND in on-road costs.
Meanwhile, the large SUV Ford Explorer is available at a price of 1.999 billion VND, equivalent to a discount of 100 million VND.
As of the end of March, Ford had sold 8,098 passenger cars in Vietnam. The Ford Ranger is the brand’s best-selling model with 3,762 units sold in the first quarter, followed by the Ford Everest and Ford Territory with sales of 2,134 and 2,095 units, respectively.
Mitsubishi’s B-Segment Sedan
In the B-segment sedan category in Vietnam, the Mitsubishi Attrage has never been a strong competitor to the Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, and Honda City trio.
As a result, the Japanese automaker has continuously offered promotions in the form of registration fee support, along with official gifts.
In May, several 2024 models of the Mitsubishi Attrage in Vietnam are being offered with registration fee support. However, only the MT version receives the maximum support, equivalent to a discount of 38 million VND.
Combined with the accompanying gifts, including fuel vouchers and a rearview camera, customers purchasing the manual transmission version of this imported Thai sedan are entitled to a total discount of 48.5 million VND.

After the first three months of the year, Mitsubishi surpassed Kia in passenger car sales in Vietnam. The Mitsubishi Xpander remains the brand’s best-selling model, contributing 4,391 units to the total sales of 7,920 units in Vietnam.
BMW Imported Models

In Vietnam, the BMW X4 is priced at 2.999 billion VND, and the BMW Z4 costs 3.139 billion VND. This means that customers can save approximately 149 million VND and 156 million VND in on-road costs, respectively, when purchasing these two models.
Additionally, locally assembled BMW models in Vietnam are also being promoted with discounts of up to hundreds of millions of VND.
Among them, the BMW 3 Series and BMW X3 benefit from discounts of up to 100 million VND. The BMW 520i receives a discount of 124 million VND, bringing the price of this luxury sedan to 1.979 billion VND. Thanks to a cash discount of 188 million VND, customers can also purchase the BMW X5 for 3.909 billion VND.
All Electric Vehicles in Vietnam
According to Decree 51/2025, pure electric vehicles in Vietnam will continue to be exempt from the initial registration fee, with a rate of 0%, until February 28, 2027.
This means that the policy of completely waiving the registration fee for electric vehicles in Vietnam will be extended for another two years, totaling a five-year period from March 1, 2022.
Currently, the Vietnamese electric vehicle market offers a wide range of choices, from small urban electric cars to large electric SUVs, electric sedans, electric sports cars, and even luxury electric vehicles.

The BYD Dolphin, currently the most affordable model of the Chinese automotive brand in Vietnam, is priced at 659 million VND. With the complete waiver of the registration fee, customers can save 66-79 million VND depending on the registration location.
The newly launched BYD Sealion 8 electric SUV also falls under this exemption. With a price of 1.569 billion VND, customers purchasing the BYD Sealion 8 will save 157-188 million VND in on-road costs.
