On June 20, the Traffic Police Department (C08) of the Ministry of Public Security announced that it has approved the plan for the 7th nationwide license plate auction.
More than 1.23 million license plates from 34 provinces and cities are expected to be publicly listed before the auction begins.
The full list of license plates will be published on the Ministry of Public Security’s portal and the Traffic Police Department’s website as per Decree 156. The display period will last for one month before the official auction, which is expected to take place in late July 2025, in collaboration with C08 and Vietnam Auction Joint Stock Company (VPA).
The 6th auction, which took place from April 8 to June 19, saw vibrant results with nearly 56,500 license plates successfully auctioned, generating approximately VND 2,300 billion.
This included over 19,500 car license plates and nearly 37,000 motorcycle license plates. Notably, the actual amount deposited into the state budget was around VND 2,000 billion, indicating a high payment rate and commitment from the winning bidders.
License plates with “quadruple” and “sequential” numbers continued to attract significant interest from the public, with record-breaking winning bids. For instance, the plate 30M-888.88 fetched VND 10.5 billion, while 99A-888.88 went for VND 10 billion. Motorcycle plates also saw high bids, such as 50AA-888.88 at VND 1.45 billion and 11AA-111.11 at VND 1.13 billion.
A representative from the Traffic Police Department stated that the total revenue from license plate auctions nationwide has reached approximately VND 6,400 billion so far, reflecting the immense popularity of the program and its success in generating legitimate income for the state budget.
Conducting transparent auctions not only allows citizens to obtain their desired license plates but also contributes to preventing negativity in the management of motor vehicle registration plates.
