The Suzuki Jimny, the petite off-road vehicle, is slowly disappearing from European roads due to stringent emission regulations and a lack of electrification. For most of its existence in the old continent, the Jimny has been distributed as a lightweight commercial vehicle with two seats to navigate the increasingly strict regulations.
Before this tiny 4×4 bids farewell, Suzuki introduced a special edition in the French market, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the first Jimny’s launch. The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary is designed exclusively for collectors, with a limited production run of just 55 units.
On the outside, it stands out from the standard version with a unique grille featuring the “Suzuki” wording instead of the brand logo. Additionally, it sports classic-style decals on the sides, red mudguards, and a canvas cover with a rhino logo on the spare tire. The car is equipped with black steel rims and is offered in four exterior colors: white, green, black with a hint of blue, and gray.

On the inside, it features rubber floor mats in the passenger and luggage compartments, along with a commemorative plaque placed on the central control cluster. Additionally, Suzuki France offers a special key chain and a leather-bound journey logbook for owners to record memorable experiences with their Jimny.

This limited edition is based on the Privilège trim of the Suzuki Jimny in France. Hence, it comes with amenities such as air conditioning, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, lane departure warning, automatic headlights, and traffic sign recognition. However, it lacks the 9-inch infotainment screen and LED lights found in higher-end trims, which could be a plus for those who prefer authentic off-roading over technology.

Under the hood, the Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary retains the familiar 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, producing 101 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and Suzuki’s 4WD AllGrip Pro system, accompanied by a secondary gearbox and a low-range transfer case.
The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary uses the same engine as the standard model.
While it may not break speed records, the Jimny, with its lightweight construction of just 1,090 kg, compact size, and impressive approach angles, remains exceptionally agile when venturing off the beaten path.
The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary has a starting price of 28,955 Euros (approximately $33,200) in the French market. The first units will be delivered to customers this month.

France is not the only market to receive a special edition Jimny; there are also the Mata in Italy, Horizon in Germany, Heritage in Australia, Rhino in Malaysia, and 4Style in Brazil.
The current-generation Jimny has been on sale since 2018, but Suzuki has not provided clear plans for the next-generation model or a mid-life refresh. Meanwhile, the 5-door version produced in India is highly popular in the Japanese market. Additionally, a pickup truck variant is also under consideration for development.
Initially, there were expectations that the Jimny would receive a hybrid or mild hybrid powertrain, enabling its return to the European market as a passenger vehicle. Suzuki had confirmed that an electric version of the car would be launched in Europe in 2024 or 2025.
However, things took an unexpected turn last year when Chairman Toshihiro Suzuki announced that the Jimny would not be electrified and would continue as an internal combustion engine vehicle. Suzuki may consider alternative fuels for the car in the future.
