The Toyota Century 2025 takes Japanese automotive craftsmanship to new heights and redefines in-car privacy with its electrically adjustable privacy glass windows, a first for a commercial vehicle.

The recent Toyota Century 2025 has caught attention with its electrically adjustable side window glass for the rear seats. This technology, usually seen on the sunroofs of premium vehicles, has been adapted by Toyota for the side windows, offering enhanced privacy and protection for passengers.

This innovative feature is made possible by AGC’s (Tokyo) Digital Curtain technology, consisting of a special film layer sandwiched between two transparent glass panels. When an electric current is applied, the microscopic particles within the film rearrange, altering the glass’s opacity. Rear-seat passengers can instantly switch between three modes: clear, semi-transparent, and opaque, at the touch of a button.

AGC states that the material can block up to 99% of UV rays and is nearly invisible to the naked eye. When no voltage is applied, the glass defaults to an opaque state, ensuring maximum privacy while maintaining the vehicle’s sleek aesthetic.

This technology is not new to the automotive industry. In 2005, Ferrari introduced a similar feature on the Superamerica, and Mercedes-Benz adopted Magic Sky Control for sunroofs in the 2010s.

More recently, electrically adjustable tinted glass has become available on mainstream models such as the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, Rafale, and Nissan Leaf crossover. However, Toyota has exclusively applied this technology to the rear side windows of the Century SUV, while the panoramic sunroof retains conventional glass with an integrated electric blind.

In the Japanese market, the Toyota Century is priced at a premium of 27 million yen (approximately 4.9 billion VND), excluding options. Unlike previous generations that were exclusive to the domestic market, Toyota is gradually expanding the distribution of this SUV to China and potentially other international markets in the near future. If this comes to fruition, the Century SUV promises to be a unique contender in the luxury SUV segment, combining cutting-edge technology, attention to detail, and Japanese philosophy.
