Xiaomi has just announced an impressive feat, receiving 200,000 orders for its YU7 electric SUV within 3 minutes, and a staggering 289,000 orders within the first hour of sales. These figures represent a combination of standard (refundable) and locked (non-refundable) deposits.

In China, prospective buyers have two options when it comes to placing a deposit for the Xiaomi YU7:

  • Standard Deposit: 5,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 17.5 million VND), refundable within 7 days. The order will automatically be locked if the buyer does not cancel within this timeframe.
  • Priority Deposit: 20,000 Chinese yuan (around 70 million VND), the order will be locked immediately and the deposit is non-refundable. This option also comes with priority for early vehicle delivery. Currently, this choice is listed as “sold out” on the Xiaomi app.

Out of these orders, an astonishing 240,000 were locked within the first 18 hours, representing firm commitments to purchase the vehicle.

This is the first time Xiaomi has disclosed specific data on the number of locked orders, although the company did not provide a detailed explanation. However, it is likely that the 240,000 locked orders comprise a combination of priority deposits and orders with customer-selected locked configurations. This number of locked orders nearly fills Xiaomi’s factory production capacity until early 2027.

Currently, Xiaomi has only one factory complex located in Beijing, which is divided into two phases:

  • Phase 1 (F1): Construction began in April 2022 with an area of 720,000 square meters, completed after 14 months in June 2023, and started mass production in March 2024 after the launch of the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan. The maximum capacity in Phase 1 is 150,000 vehicles per year.
  • Phase 2 (F2): Construction started in July 2024, with an area of 531,000 square meters, and is expected to be completed by June 2025. According to the latest update in May, F2 was scheduled to start mass production in June, but there has been no official announcement yet about its completion and operation. The expected capacity is also equivalent to F1.

According to sources, the first 500 Xiaomi YU7 vehicles produced were for showroom display and were manufactured at the F1 factory, not F2. Prior to this, 653 vehicles were produced for internal testing purposes.

Currently, Xiaomi’s F2 factory is expected to begin mass production in July 2025. However, even with accelerated progress at the new factory, with 240,000 locked orders within the first 18 hours, the company will still need over a year to fulfill all the orders. This also means that some customers may have to wait until early 2027 to receive their vehicles.

What’s noteworthy is that these 240,000 locked orders were placed within the first 18 hours of sales, demonstrating the immense popularity of the YU7 and the production pressure Xiaomi is facing in the coming months.

The Xiaomi YU7 SUV is currently a hot commodity in the Chinese market.

Xiaomi officially entered the electric vehicle arena in March 2021 with an initial investment of 1.4 billion USD and a commitment to invest an additional 10 billion USD over the next decade. In 2022, CEO Lei Jun announced the company’s goal of selling 10 million electric vehicles annually.

Three years after declaring its entry into the electric vehicle race, Xiaomi unveiled its first car, the SU7, which instantly created a buzz on Chinese social media. When it went on sale on March 28, 2024, the Xiaomi SU7 received 50,000 orders within 27 minutes and nearly 90,000 orders within the first 24 hours, almost selling out the entire year’s production. From its launch until May 2025, Xiaomi delivered over 272,000 units of the SU7, according to data from China EV DataTracker.

Mr. Lei Jun predicted that the demand for the YU7 would be three times that of the SU7, as it aligns with the consumption trends in the Chinese market. In this market of a billion people, SUVs outsell sedans at a ratio of roughly 3:1.

The Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV was officially launched on June 26, 2025, with a starting price of 253,500 Chinese yuan (approximately 887 million VND) for the version with a maximum range of 830 kilometers according to the CLTC standard. This price is 10,000 Chinese yuan (35 million VND) lower than the Tesla Model Y RWD version.
