On June 19, the Vietnam International Exhibition for the Automotive Service Industry – Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City 2025 officially opened at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

Concurrent with this event, the International Exhibition for Genuine and Replacement Auto Parts was also held, creating a large-scale gathering of over 400 businesses from 16 countries and territories.

Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City 2025 saw the participation of brands and suppliers from China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and Vietnam. With more than 980 booths, the exhibition showcased the latest products and technologies in various fields: components and parts, automotive electrical and electronics, maintenance and repair, oils and fuels, as well as vehicles for outdoor and personalization needs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), shared that the Vietnamese automotive market in 2025 is expected to grow by about 12% compared to 2024. According to Mr. Phu, this growth is a result of a dynamic economy, improving living standards, and a continuing rise in the demand for personal vehicles.

Mr. Phu also highlighted the importance of the government’s investment in key transport infrastructure projects, which provide a significant boost to the development of the entire automotive industry. “Modern infrastructure optimizes logistics, reduces transportation costs, and enhances the production and business efficiency of enterprises in the industry,” he stated.

However, to solidify Vietnam’s position on the global automotive industry map, enhancing production capacity and self-sufficiency in parts supply are prerequisites. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, one of the main goals is to have the domestic supporting industry meet 55%-60% of the demand for parts and components for manufacturing and assembly by 2030, and to increase this to 80%-85% by 2045.

Currently, the localization rate for cars with fewer than nine seats in Vietnam is only 12%-20%, falling short of the 30%-40% target set for 2020. Mr. Vu Ba Phu noted that this reality reflects a significant reliance on international suppliers and underscores the need to invest more in manufacturing technologies for critical components such as transmissions, engines, bodywork, and drive systems.

“Increasing localization not only reduces product costs and enhances competitiveness but also creates thousands of high-quality technical jobs, contributing significantly to the country’s economic development,” added Mr. Phu.

Additionally, Vietnam is facing intense competitive pressure from regional countries like China and Thailand, which boast robust automotive industry ecosystems, diverse product ranges, and effective support policies. In this context, Mr. Phu emphasized the need for Vietnam to adapt quickly to global trends such as electrification, connected vehicles, and manufacturing automation.

On behalf of the organizers, Ms. Fiona Chiew, General Director of Messe Frankfurt (Hong Kong), appreciated the role of Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City in promoting exchange, cooperation, and technology transfer in the automotive industry. She noted that Vietnam is emerging as an attractive investment destination due to the shift in global supply chains and the development of new energy trends.

“Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City is not just a product showcase but also a platform for connecting businesses, manufacturers, and industry experts. This foundation promotes the sustainable development and international integration of Vietnam’s automotive industry,” affirmed Ms. Fiona Chiew.

The Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City 2025 exhibition will span three days, concluding on June 21, and is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, partners, and investors from home and abroad. This event not only updates the Vietnamese automotive industry on the latest trends but also presents a vital opportunity to enhance domestic production capabilities and deepen integration into the global value chain.
