This year’s GIIAS exhibition in July is expected to showcase an entirely new Subaru SUV.

At a press conference on June 24th, Mr. Arie Christopher, CEO of Subaru Indonesia, hinted at an upcoming release: “There will be a new car. Although Subaru cannot reveal specifics, we believe people can guess.”

Accompanying Mr. Christopher’s statement was a slide showing distinctive headlights, resembling those of the sixth-generation Subaru Forester, previously launched globally. While there has been no official confirmation, this vehicle is likely to be the centerpiece of Subaru’s GIIAS 2025 exhibit.

Based on configurations offered in other markets, the 2025 Forester is expected to be available in three versions: X-Break, Premium, and Sport. The Sport version boasts a sporty, individual style, the Premium focuses on urban convenience, and the X-Break is equipped for off-road performance.

Internationally, the sixth-generation Forester offers two powertrain options: a 1.8L turbocharged gasoline engine and a self-charging hybrid system. The hybrid technology is shared with Toyota, but Subaru retains its core values with its signature boxer engine and Symmetrical AWD system, setting it apart in the SUV segment.

Not only has the exterior been enhanced, but the international version of the new Forester also boasts significant interior upgrades. Subaru offers various dealer-installed accessories, including aluminum pedals, water-repellent seat covers, door sills, sunshades, and cargo area amenities like multi-purpose hooks, ideal for outdoor activities such as camping, mountain climbing, or fishing on weekends.

These improvements are expected to boost Forester’s competitiveness in the C-segment SUV market, where rivals like the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage already have a strong presence.

Although Subaru has not confirmed the introduction of the new Forester to Vietnam, it is entirely possible that this SUV will enter the market soon. However, the most significant obstacle is likely to be the price, as the Forester will still be imported from Japan, making it less price-competitive than rivals assembled locally or imported from ASEAN countries.
