According to Motor1, after months of evaluating numerous candidates, Stellantis has finally found a successor to Carlos Tavares. The former CEO resigned in December 2024, and it was only recently that the Stellantis Board of Directors unanimously selected Antonio Filosa as the new leader of the group.

Antonio Filosa, a native of Naples, Italy, began his career at Fiat in 1999. He held several significant roles before leading Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) operations in Argentina from 2016 to 2018. In March 2018, Antonio Filosa was appointed CEO of FCA Latin America.

Following the merger of PSA and FCA in 2021 to form Stellantis, Antonio Filosa was appointed CEO of Stellantis South America. He played a crucial role in making Brazil the largest foreign market for Jeep.

Antonio Filosa became the global CEO of Jeep in 2023 and was appointed COO of the Americas a year later. Earlier this year, Antonio Filosa stepped down as global CEO of Jeep, passing the baton to Bob Broderdorf.

Per Motor1, Antonio Filosa will take over as Stellantis CEO starting June 23. The new CEO of the Stellantis group is expected to face numerous challenges.

Stellantis’ profits took a significant hit last year, and its portfolio is facing difficulties. The group’s market share in the US is declining, and the Chrysler brand is a shadow of its former self, according to experts.

Motor1 argues that juggling 14 different brands is no easy task for the Stellantis group. Moreover, signals of a Lancia brand revival are not particularly promising.

DS Automobiles witnessed a 26.4% decline in sales in Europe during the first four months of the year. Opel/Vauxhall, Fiat, and Citroën are experiencing similar lulls in their business performance.

According to Motor1, Stellantis’ total group sales dropped by 9.6% in April. The group owns several car brands, including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, FIAT, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, Free2move, and Leasys.
