Mazda has just unveiled the first official images of the new CX-5, confirming its global debut on July 10.

This is considered a comprehensive upgrade of the best-selling SUV in the Japanese brand’s product lineup.

While Mazda maintains its “ambiguous” communication style, manipulating the lighting of these images reveals many new design details. Compared to the current generation, the new Mazda CX-5 features a sharper head and tail design. The LED headlights and taillights are intricately shaped, contributing to a more modern and distinctive appearance.

A notable detail is the use of the word “MAZDA” at the rear instead of the traditional logo, indicating a shift in how the brand is shaping its identity for newer models. The car in the image features numerous blacked-out elements, suggesting it could be a sporty or high-end variant.

The Japanese manufacturer reveals that the new CX-5 will feature a “sharper design and a spacious, uncluttered interior,” aligning with expectations of increased overall dimensions. These changes aim to enhance the user experience by providing a more airy and comfortable space for passengers.

Additionally, they affirm that this SUV will be equipped with a range of “advanced, human-centric technologies,” reflecting Mazda’s core design philosophy in recent times. It’s likely that the new CX-5 will boast a larger infotainment screen, a simplified layout, and new convenience features to enhance practicality.

One notable detail in the images released by Mazda is the presence of the “e-SkyActiv-G” logo, confirming that this is the hybrid version. The company states that the CX-5 will be the first model to employ their self-developed hybrid system, combining the new SkyActiv-Z gasoline engine with an electric motor.

The goal of this powertrain is to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, addressing the tightening global regulations on emissions. Mazda’s first foray into self-developed hybrids is also expected to enhance the CX-5’s competitiveness against established rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

The new Mazda CX-5 is a strategic cornerstone for the Japanese brand as it transitions towards electrification. The comprehensive upgrades in design, equipment, and powertrain will ensure that this SUV maintains its strong position in the C-SUV segment, where competition is intensifying.

In the lead-up to its official launch, Mazda is anticipated to disclose further details about the new CX-5.
