With summer in full swing, many families are taking advantage of the school break to go on vacations. Cars are a popular choice for transportation due to their capacity to accommodate multiple passengers and luggage, making them ideal for short and long-distance trips.

However, failing to check the status of your vehicle’s ETC card before embarking on these journeys could result in a hefty fine.

According to Clause 4, Article 6 of Decree 168, drivers who enter the ETC lane without an electronic toll collection card (non-terminal card) will be subject to a fine of VND 2-3 million. This violation also carries the additional penalty of deducting 2 points from the driver’s license.

To avoid such penalties, drivers should ensure that their vehicles have a valid ETC card affixed before entering any toll roads or highways. It is also crucial to check the balance of the ETC account linked to the vehicle’s identification card to ensure sufficient funds for toll payment.

If your vehicle does not have an ETC account, you can register online from the comfort of your home or visit ETC service centers in person. For those with existing accounts, it is essential to verify the status of your ETC card to ensure smooth travel on toll roads.

To check your ETC account balance, you can use the mobile apps provided by ePass/VETC, visit their websites, or contact their customer support hotlines. If you have subscribed to their notification services, you will receive SMS alerts whenever there are changes in your account balance.

Topping up your ETC account can be done conveniently through the respective service providers’ apps, such as VETC or ePass. Additionally, you can recharge your account at VETC service centers or at the toll plazas before or after your trip. Another option is to transfer funds to your ETC account via online banking or e-wallets, although this may incur a small service charge.
