Hyundai is set to unveil a concept for its new small electric SUV at the Munich Auto Show in September.
This is the next step in Hyundai’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup, building on the success of the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9, and Niro EV.
The new Hyundai model is positioned between the Inster (the electrified version of the Hyundai Casper) and the Kona. If it is based on the E-GMP platform, the car may be named the Ioniq 2.
While specifications have not yet been revealed, experts predict that the new electric SUV will retain much of the concept’s design, in line with Hyundai’s recent product development direction. The car may use a shortened version of the E-GMP platform, similar to the Kia EV2, combined with a single-motor powertrain to optimize pricing and competitiveness in the small SUV segment.
A notable feature of the new car is the Pleos Connect infotainment system, an entirely new platform developed by Hyundai on Android Automotive. This interface utilizes a large touchscreen display positioned prominently on the dashboard, adopting a modern style reminiscent of Tesla or several Chinese electric vehicles. This marks a significant shift in Hyundai’s interior design, moving away from the previously used curved, integrated screen layout.
The addition of a small electric SUV to Hyundai’s portfolio not only completes the Ioniq range but also demonstrates the brand’s determination to expand its presence in the mass-market electric SUV segment, where competition is intensifying. With a flexible product approach and technological advantages, Hyundai is steadily establishing its position in the global electric vehicle race.
