According to a recent announcement by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the domestic market consumed a total of 31,977 vehicles in May 2025, a growth of 9.4% compared to the previous month. This included 22,934 passenger cars, 8,782 commercial vehicles, and 261 specialized vehicles. Compared to May 2025, passenger car sales increased by 14.6%, commercial vehicle sales decreased by 2%, and specialized vehicle sales increased by 23%.

Additionally, VAMA also reported that sales of domestically assembled vehicles in June reached 14,355 units, a 4% increase from the previous month. Meanwhile, sales of completely built-up imported vehicles reached 17,622 units, a 14% increase.

Although the Vietnamese automobile market showed signs of improvement in June 2025, there were still some models that struggled to attract buyers. The list of the 10 worst-selling car models in the Vietnamese market in June 2025 illustrates this point.

10 worst-selling car models in Vietnam in June 2025 (in units)

1. Ford Explorer

The model with the lowest sales in the Vietnamese market in June 2025 was the Ford Explorer. This large SUV sold only 1 unit, a decrease of 90%.

Ford Explorer

The low sales of the Ford Explorer in Vietnam are not surprising, given its high price tag of up to VND 2.099 billion. Ford has been offering discounts of VND 100 million for this model to clear inventory. According to sales consultants at dealerships, the Ford Explorer is currently sold out and no longer available in Vietnam. The model has also been quietly removed from the official website of Ford Vietnam.

2. Honda Accord

Ranking second in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market is the Honda Accord, another familiar face. The sales of this D-segment sedan reached only 2 units, showing growth compared to May 2025. In the previous month, Honda Accord did not sell any units.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord no longer offers the cash discount of up to VND 250 million that was previously available from the manufacturer. Even during promotional months, the sales of this model did not see much improvement.

The weaknesses of the Honda Accord lie in its high list price of up to VND 1.319 billion and the fact that only one version is available. Additionally, the model has not been upgraded in terms of design or equipment for a long time. The decline of the mid-size sedan segment in the Vietnamese market also contributes to the lackluster sales of this Honda model.

3. Kia Morning

Similar to the previous month, June 2025 continued to witness the presence of the Kia Morning in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the Vietnamese market. This model sold 6 units, a growth of 50%.

Kia Morning

The changing preferences of consumers and the emergence of more attractive new car models, including electric vehicles with similar price ranges, have caused a decline in the popularity of A-segment cars in general and the Kia Morning in particular. Additionally, the Morning has maintained the same design and equipment for an extended period without any upgrades.

4. Kia K5

The model ranking just behind the Morning is its sibling, the Kia K5. In June 2025, Kia sold 20 units of the K5 in Vietnam, a growth of 17.6%.

Kia K5

Thus, this is the second mid-size sedan in the top 10, following the Honda Accord. This fact further highlights the indifference of Vietnamese consumers towards this segment.

5. Isuzu mu-X

The 5th position in the top 10 belongs to the Isuzu mu-X. This mid-size SUV sold 23 units, a decrease of 28%. It appears that the new version, launched in Vietnam in June 2025, has not been able to boost the sales of this model.

Isuzu mu-X

One of the reasons why the Isuzu mu-X is less appealing to Vietnamese consumers is its unattractive design and ineffective communication and promotion strategies. Additionally, the Isuzu brand is still strongly associated with commercial vehicles in the minds of Vietnamese consumers.

6. Toyota Corolla Altis

Just ahead of the Isuzu mu-X in terms of sales is the Toyota Corolla Altis. This model sold 24 units, a decrease of 11.1%.

Toyota Corolla Altis

To boost sales, the Toyota Corolla Altis in Vietnam may need a new version with upgraded design and equipment. Additionally, its uncompetitive pricing, ranging from VND 725 million to VND 870 million, also affects its sales performance.

7. Toyota Alphard

The second Toyota model in the top 10 worst-selling cars in Vietnam in June 2025 is the Alphard. This MPV, dubbed the “luxury aircraft on the road”, sold 26 units, a growth of 85.7%.

Toyota Alphard

With a price range of VND 4.37 billion to VND 4.475 billion, it is not surprising that the Toyota Alphard has low sales. This model is clearly not aimed at the mass market in Vietnam.

8. Isuzu D-Max

Isuzu currently has only two passenger car models in Vietnam, the mu-X and the D-Max. Both of these models are included in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market for June 2025.

Isuzu D-Max

Compared to the mu-X, the Isuzu D-Max has higher sales, reaching 31 units. However, compared to the previous month, the sales of this pickup truck model decreased by 57.9%. The reasons for the low sales of the Isuzu D-Max in Vietnam are similar to those of the mu-X.

9. Mitsubishi Outlander

The Mitsubishi Outlander has the same sales as the Isuzu D-Max, with only 31 units sold. Compared to May 2025, this C-segment SUV saw a decrease of 8.8%.

Mitsubishi Outlander

In recent months, Mitsubishi has discontinued the promotional program for the Outlander. This, coupled with its outdated design and equipment, inferior to competitors, and uncompetitive pricing ranging from VND 825 million to VND 950 million, has made the Mitsubishi Outlander a less attractive choice in the C-segment SUV market.

It would not be surprising if the Mitsubishi Outlander is replaced in the Vietnamese market in the future. According to plans, at the end of this year, Mitsubishi will introduce the 7-seat version of the Xpander in Vietnam. This could be a new contender in the C-segment SUV market for the Mitsubishi brand.

10. Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny is a frequent entrant in the list of worst-selling car models in the Vietnamese market. June 2025 was no exception. In the past month, this model sold only 33 units, a growth of 94.1%.

Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny in Vietnam has a high starting price of VND 789 million. However, its size, convenience, and safety equipment are not commensurate with its price tag. Additionally, the supply of this model is limited due to its importation from Japan.
