The Electric Revolution: Unveiling the Eccentric Design of the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept

GT XX Concept is an all-electric super sedan that combines a unique design, powerful performance, and cutting-edge technologies, marking a significant step in AMG’s electrification ambitions within the high-performance segment, ushering in the era of AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA).

The GT XX Concept boasts a futuristic and distinctive design while retaining the breakthrough spirit of AMG. The entire body is painted in a striking orange hue, paying homage to the legendary Mercedes C111 of the 1970s. Its aerodynamic efficiency is remarkable, with a drag coefficient of just 0.198, despite featuring large wheels and traditional side mirrors.

Contributing to its aerodynamic prowess is the intelligent active wheel arch covers. Each wheel is integrated with five carbon fiber flaps that automatically open and close, optimizing airflow according to driving conditions. Notably, this system is powered by the kinetic energy generated from the rotation of the wheels, a unique mechanical detail unseen before.

The interior of the GT XX features carbon fiber sports seats with custom-molded cushions for a personalized experience. The seat upholstery and interior trim are crafted from recycled race-spec GT3 tires, with each set of tires providing enough material for one car, emphasizing sustainability.

The vehicle is equipped with a large display cluster in front of the driver, accompanied by a Yoke-style steering wheel with integrated controls and paddles, creating the sensation of sitting in an aircraft cockpit.

Despite being an electric vehicle, the GT XX Concept retains the “soul of AMG” through its V8 engine sound simulation. The audio is delivered through dual speakers integrated into the headlight compartments, projecting a powerful sound experience reminiscent of high-performance gasoline engines.

The GT XX Concept boasts an impressive power output of 1,340 horsepower, surpassing the Lucid Air Sapphire (1,234 hp) but falling short of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (1,548 hp). It is built on an 800V high-voltage platform, supporting ultra-fast charging up to 850 kW, adding nearly 400 km of range in just 5 minutes, an impressive feat given the current limitations of fast-charging infrastructure.

The vehicle’s battery utilizes a direct-cooled cylindrical cell technology, a proprietary design that efficiently manages temperature during continuous high-speed driving, making it particularly suited for track use.

Even as a concept, the GT XX clearly showcases Mercedes-AMG’s future development direction, from design language and performance to electrification technologies, all centered around the brand-new AMG.EA platform.
