The Hummer H1 Alpha pickup truck is a rare sight, with only one known example in Vietnam. This unique vehicle has recently come up for sale, although the price remains undisclosed.

This particular Hummer H1 Alpha was previously owned by a group of car enthusiasts in Hanoi, who also possess a modified Hummer H2. The H1 is a formidable, military-inspired vehicle with a powerful presence on and off the road.

The Hummer H1 is a large, four-wheel-drive vehicle based on the M998 Humvee, developed by AM General when it was a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation (AMC). Initially designed for military purposes, a commercial version was later released.

The commercial version was produced from 1992 to 2006 and was the first model in the Hummer lineup. AM General manufactured both the H1 and the Humvee at its facility in Mishawaka, Indiana. While GM discontinued marketing the H1 after the 2006 model year, AM General continued to produce the military Humvee until 2018.

The Hummer H1 comes in three main variants: a soft-top convertible-like model, a four-door pickup, and the “Alpha Wagon” body style. Less common are the two-door pickup and four-door slant-back models, which share the same body style as the US military Humvee. The soft-top/convertible and SUV versions were the last ones available to individual consumers.

The sole Hummer H1 Alpha in Vietnam is painted black and rides on 17-inch wheels with large 395/135 tires. The owner has added a roof-mounted LED light bar to enhance the vehicle’s lighting capabilities. Notably, despite its high ground clearance, the truck does not have side steps, as they would hinder its off-road capabilities.

Under the hood, the Hummer H1 Alpha is powered by a 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo-diesel engine that produces 300 horsepower and a robust 705 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. With this potent drivetrain, the H1 Alpha is highly capable off-road, able to wade through 762 mm of water and boasting a ground clearance of 406 mm.
