More VinFast EV owners are opting for full ownership of their vehicles and batteries, thanks to attractive pricing policies. In addition to long-term cost savings, many owners have expressed peace of mind regarding the durability of their electric vehicle batteries.

Long-Term Economic Considerations

Ms. Hoang Hanh from Hanoi has been driving her VF 7 Plus since 2024. After almost a year of satisfying ownership, she intends to stick with the brand. Thus, when VinFast announced its special offer for customers switching from battery leasing to purchasing, she immediately contacted the sales team to make the change.

“When I bought the car, the battery cost around VND 200 million. Now, the early termination fee for the leased battery is only VND 80 million (for the CATL battery, 2024 model). Including the leasing fees I’ve already paid, I’m still coming out ahead by choosing to buy the battery outright. Moreover, I plan to use the car for many more years,” explained the car owner.

From a financial perspective, many customers share Ms. Hanh’s view that buying the battery now is a “win-win” decision due to the attractive pricing and VinFast promotions.

For instance, the battery purchase price for a VF 5 is currently as low as VND 42-54 million for 2023-2025 models, a significant decrease from the initial price of VND 80 million. The batteries for models like the VF 8 and VF 9 are also reasonably priced, ranging from nearly VND 100 million to a maximum of VND 270 million (for the VF 9 with a CATL battery from 2025). Additionally, during July, VinFast is offering bonus VinClub points equivalent to 1-2% of the battery price (varying by model), which can be used across the entire Vingroup ecosystem.

Mr. Tran Minh Hai from Ho Chi Minh City, a VinFast VF 6 owner, believes that buying the battery gives users more control over their vehicle ownership and future resale options. When he recently decided to upgrade to a VF 8, Mr. Hai successfully sold his old car in a matter of minutes after switching to battery ownership, free from leasing contract obligations or monthly fees.

“The car was reasonably priced, and there were no additional concerns about extra costs. So, the buyer made a quick decision,” said Mr. Hai. Buyers of cars with owned batteries also don’t have to worry about monthly distance limitations. The new owner of Mr. Hai’s VF 6 will continue to benefit from the “free charging” policy that he enjoyed throughout the past year. This policy, implemented by VinFast until the end of June 2027, aims to encourage the adoption of green vehicles without worrying about fuel costs.

Peace of Mind with Long-Lasting Batteries and Long-Term Support

In addition to financial incentives, the real-world performance of VinFast electric vehicle batteries over the past years has been impressive, giving many owners the confidence to make the switch to full ownership.

A notable example is Mr. Hoang Thanh Tung from Nghe An province, who has been using his VF 5 for ride-hailing services since late 2023. By mid-2025, the car had clocked 160,000 km, and after a check-up at an authorized service center, the battery showed minimal degradation of only 1%.

Interestingly, Mr. Tung did not baby his electric vehicle, as some might assume. He charged the battery daily as needed, without strictly controlling the charge level. Yet, after almost two years of continuous use, the battery remained in excellent condition.

His maintenance costs so far have been minimal, totaling just over VND 7 million. According to Mr. Tung, the expenses would likely have been several times higher for a comparable gasoline-powered car over the same distance.

Similarly, in Hanoi, a VF e34 owner has been using their VinFast electric car for ride-hailing services since 2022. After covering nearly 300,000 km, the battery showed only a 9% degradation rate. This figure is remarkable, as 300,000 km is equivalent to the usage of an average driver over several decades. This implies that VinFast electric vehicle owners can confidently expect to use their cars for many years without worrying about battery replacement.

Furthermore, VinFast automotive batteries are now covered by an industry-leading warranty of 8-10 years, regardless of mileage. This extended warranty provides peace of mind to owners throughout the vehicle’s lifespan.

With exceptional pricing offers, extended warranties, and superior durability, many customers believe that buying the battery is a wise decision for all electric vehicle owners, whether individuals or ride-hailing service providers.
