Just after midnight on July 20th, authorities in Quang Ninh province made the decision to flip the boat in order to search for missing people.
The rescue operation continued through the night
Nearly 1,000 people and over 100 vehicles were involved in the search for the missing victims. Many local fishermen, familiar with the waterways, also joined the search.
As the tide was going out, the search area was focused towards Cua Dua.
At midnight on July 20th, authorities made the decision to flip the boat and look for those trapped inside.
The boat was flipped, pumped out, and pulled from the water
By 2:30 am, rescue workers had found 46 victims (11 of whom were alive).
By 3:40 am, most of the water had been pumped out of the boat, but no additional bodies were found.
At 5:30 am on July 20th, the rescue operation continued in search of the missing.
Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Quang Ninh, directed the operation on-site and offered condolences to the families of the victims. He also instructed local authorities, the Fatherland Front, social organizations, and businesses to provide support and comfort to the affected families.
Earlier that night, provincial leaders and representatives from the Provincial Fatherland Front visited and encouraged the victims who were being treated and resuscitated at the hospital.
The province also arranged accommodations and covered all meal and accommodation expenses for the victims’ families during their stay in Quang Ninh.
The Provincial Fatherland Front provided financial support to the families of the deceased (VND 5 million per person) and the injured (VND 3 million per person).
Sharing the loss with the affected families, several local businesses offered additional financial support to the families of the deceased (VND 40 million per person) and the injured (VND 25 million per person).
