According to Motor1, the 2026 Audi Q3 has just been unveiled with an intriguing change to its cockpit. Gone are the traditional stalks attached to the steering column, replaced by a horizontal bar-like element positioned behind the steering wheel.

The controls for the windshield wipers have also been relocated from the right of the steering wheel to the left, in the form of a rotary knob to adjust the wiper speed. The outer edge of the bar features a button to activate a single wipe. Holding this button down will spray washer fluid onto the windshield.

Indicating left or right remains the same, with a push down or up respectively, but only the top part of the bar moves. Switching between dipped and main beam headlights is also similar to many other cars on the market.

By relocating the wiper controls, Audi has freed up space on the right of the steering wheel, allowing for the electronic gear selector to be placed there. This arrangement also results in a neater center console, with room for two additional cupholders. This area also features a sliding cover to conceal two USB-C charging ports and a 15-watt wireless charging pad.

Motor1 suggests that customers will need time to adjust to this new design, which Audi refers to as the “new steering wheel control concept.” It is likely that the German automaker will continue to implement this design in other models in the future.

The new Audi Q3 will be launched in Europe in September, with a starting price of 44,600 EUR (approximately 51,557 USD) for the 1.5L gasoline engine option. A PHEV version will also be available, starting at 49,300 EUR (around 57,000 USD).
