According to Carscoops, the Suzuki Jimny is one of the most capable off-road vehicles on the market, and it has now been added to the police fleet in Australia. Nicknamed “Sergeant Jim,” this compact SUV is used by the Macquarie Police Crime Prevention Unit in New South Wales.
While the Jimny may not be as powerful as some of its counterparts, it still packs a punch when it comes to off-road capabilities. However, it’s not meant for high-speed chases, and you won’t see it pursuing criminals. Instead, the Suzuki Jimny five-door model was provided to the New South Wales Police Force by Suzuki Australia to promote community engagement and participation at schools and local events.
“Sergeant Jim” sports the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine as its three-door counterparts, producing 100 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque, coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. With its modest power output, the Jimny won’t be breaking any speed records, but its off-road prowess remains impressive.
The New South Wales Police Force recognizes the importance of community engagement and believes that the Suzuki Jimny’s approachable design will help build trust and encourage conversations with locals, especially the youth. Sergeant Jim’s unique police livery is expected to be a great conversation starter and a way to connect with the community.

In Australia, the Suzuki Jimny is priced between AUD 30,490 and AUD 37,490 (approximately USD 19,660 to USD 24,180) and is available in five different variants, including both three-door and five-door options.
