The renowned car collector, Jay Leno, has added yet another exceptional vehicle to his impressive garage – the Ford Mustang GTD. Leno, known for his discerning taste in automobiles, has a particular fondness for this powerful machine.
Leno’s Ford Mustang GTD, bearing the serial number 12, showcases his determination to acquire one of the most sought-after vehicles in the market. This American muscle car embodies the pinnacle of engineering prowess and exudes an aggressive aura.
Unveiling the First Ford Mustang GTD 2025 Delivered to Jay Leno
When Ford unveiled the GT, they had their sights set on crafting a special Mustang. However, they knew they couldn’t fulfill every request, so they bided their time until the perfect moment to deliver this exceptional vehicle.
With the discontinuation of the Chevy Camaro and the absence of a successor, along with the fading presence of the Dodge Challenger and Charger, the Ford Mustang stands alone as the only V8-powered muscle car on the market.
Leno opted for the performance package, which includes a distinctive spoiler, larger splitter, and a drag reduction system (DRS) at the rear wing. This setup generates nearly 2,000 pounds of downforce at speeds of 180 miles per hour, with vents above the front tires channeling air around the body to reduce drag.
Customers will experience features that aren’t even allowed on race cars competing in events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ford developed this package to enable the Mustang GTD to complete the Nurburgring circuit in under seven minutes, and it succeeded! The GTD clocked a time of 6 minutes and 52.072 seconds on May 5, 2025, breaking the previous record of 6:57.685 set in July 2024 at Green Hell.
Thus, the Mustang GTD joins an exclusive club of production cars achieving this feat, alongside the Mercedes-AMG One, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, and Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS.
Engineered in collaboration with Multimatic for both street legality and race-readiness, only 1,000 Mustang GTDs are planned for production. The engineering team went above and beyond with this astonishing version, making it the most powerful Mustang ever built.
To match its formidable presence, the Mustang GTD is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, delivering a staggering 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque. This powerhouse accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph.
While the central portion of the GTD resembles the basic Mustang with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which retails for only $31,920, the GTD carries a price tag of $327,960, or 8.6 billion VND, excluding options. The similarities end there, however.
The GTD is undoubtedly a unique beast, and its high price tag reflects the costly production process. Ford is meticulous about the customers for the Mustang GTD, imposing a two-year ban on reselling the car, similar to what they did with the Ford GT.
Leno’s Ford is extra special; when he opened the hood, he noticed that all the workers who crafted the car had signed their names on it. He recalled that the company’s employees had done the same with his 2005 Ford GT.
Now, his Mustang is equipped with ceramic brakes, featuring 15-inch rear and 17-inch front brake discs. Such a powerful Mustang demands a substantial braking system to bring it to a halt when needed.
Jay Leno grew up in a family where, even as a child, he was allowed to choose the engine and parts for their new car purchases. When the first Mustang was introduced, the 14-year-old Leno dreamed of owning one himself. Today, he possesses several Mustangs, having bought his first one about 40 years ago. With the Ford Mustang GTD, he had to wait over 18 months to take delivery.
