Italian supercar maker Ferrari is reportedly purchasing the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric sedan for internal research purposes as it gears up for the launch of its first electric vehicle.

This information was released by Car News China, accompanied by images from blogger Sago soup in Bologna, showing a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra leaving Ferrari’s factory premises in Maranello, near Bologna, Italy. The vehicle bore Italian license plates and was spotted right outside Ferrari’s headquarters.

While Ferrari has not issued an official statement, this move indicates the Italian supercar maker’s interest in Chinese electric vehicle technology, specifically from Xiaomi – a rising star in the electric car industry with rapid development.

Another blogger, Zurich Beileye, revealed that Ferrari representatives visited Xiaomi’s headquarters last year. This meeting may have been aimed at discussing potential collaboration on high-performance electric powertrains – an area both companies aspire to expand in the future.

Ferrari has confirmed plans to launch its first all-electric model in 2025. Hence, the purchase of the SU7 Ultra – an impressive electric sedan capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in approximately 2.7 seconds – is seen as a strategic move to study a potential competitor and seek technical inspiration for its upcoming vehicle.

Theoretically, the SU7 Ultra is not a direct rival to Ferrari, but the Italian supercar maker’s appreciation of Xiaomi’s technical solutions signifies a clear shift in thinking as it prepares to enter the electric car era.

Ferrari is not alone in quietly observing the Xiaomi SU7. Last week, Bloter Korea reported that Hyundai Motor has included several Xiaomi SU7 vehicles in its research fleet at the Namyang R&D Center and its headquarters in Seoul.

Even though the Xiaomi SU7 is not officially distributed in South Korea, Hyundai imported these vehicles specifically for research and development purposes. This showcases the growing technological appeal and influence of Xiaomi in the global electric vehicle market.
