Mitsubishi is reportedly gearing up for the return of the iconic Pajero SUV.

Recently, prototypes of the 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero have been spotted undergoing road tests, sparking speculation about an all-new generation of the Pajero, possibly launching in 2026.

As soon as the leaked information surfaced, the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV quickly became the talk of the town among car enthusiasts and digital designers alike. Renowned designer @kelsonik shared a rendering of the 2026 Pajero based on the latest Nissan Patrol, giving users a better idea. This is because there are rumors that the new Pajero will share a platform and possibly an overall design with the Nissan Patrol.

As seen in the rendering, the 2026 Pajero boasts a large honeycomb grille, a signature Mitsubishi feature, paired with modern vertical “T-shape” headlights. This design is reminiscent of Volvo’s style but with a more angular and robust twist. The front bumper has also been redesigned with larger air intakes and integrated fog lights on either side, adding to its muscular and aerodynamic appeal. The sculpted hood and wide wheel arches further emphasize its off-road capabilities.

The body of the rendering largely retains the design of the Patrol, including the windows, mirrors, door handles, and wheels. While the rear end remains under wraps, it is expected to feature new LED taillights and a robust bumper befitting a premium off-road SUV.

Speculations suggest that the new Pajero will be developed on a separate body-on-frame platform shared with the Triton pickup (L200), offering gasoline, diesel, hybrid, or PHEV powertrains. Others believe it will utilize a unibody construction like the Outlander for easier electrification, although this goes against the Pajero’s off-road DNA.

If these speculations hold true, the 2026 Pajero will not only mark the return of a legend but also usher in a new era for Mitsubishi in the modern off-road SUV segment.
