The Vietnamese two-wheeler market witnessed a positive surge in the first half of 2025, with total sales reaching 1.6 million units, a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.
Notably, the electric scooter segment continued its robust growth, with VinFast and Yadea as the standout brands. According to statistics from Motorcycles Data, growth was observed across most segments, with scooters leading the way, posting an 18.7% increase. Motorcycles, despite their smaller scale, exhibited impressive growth of 61.1%.
The electric scooter segment is showcasing exceptional development. L1 electric scooters (equivalent to under 50cc gasoline scooters), targeting students, witnessed a remarkable 112.6% growth. New models such as the VinFast Motio, Honda ICON :e, and Yadea Vekoo, along with attractive promotions, stimulated consumer demand in this group.
Meanwhile, L3 electric scooters (equivalent to over 50cc) also increased by 52.6% year-over-year, indicating the growing adoption of electric scooters in Vietnam.
In terms of brands, Honda maintained its market leadership, with over 1.1 million new registrations, capturing nearly 80% of the market share. Yamaha followed with 66,260 units, reflecting a 20% growth rate. VinFast secured third place, with sales of 59,691 units and an outstanding 501% growth rate, showcasing its rapid ascent in the electric scooter segment.
Espero and Yadea trailed with 2% and 1% market share, respectively. VinFast and Yadea specialize in electric scooters, while Espero offers both electric and gasoline options.
Alongside domestic brands like VinFast, Dat Bike, Pega, and Selex Motors, the electric scooter market is witnessing a strong presence of Chinese brands, providing a diverse range of models and price points.
Currently, electric scooters are accessible at starting prices of 12 million VND. The 20-30 million VND segment dominates the market, featuring models such as the VinFast Evo200, Feliz Neo/S, Honda ICON e:, and Yadea Velax. The premium segment comprises scooters priced at 35 million VND and above.
The robust growth of electric scooters is also influenced by government policies. The government is gradually tightening the use of gasoline scooters in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to curb pollution. This prompts traditional brands like Honda and Yamaha to accelerate their transition to electric scooters.
Looking ahead, Vietnam’s two-wheeler market is expected to continue its growth trajectory, with a focus on electrification and intense competition between domestic and foreign brands.
