Mercedes-Benz is embarking on a new chapter in its electric vehicle strategy with the unveiling of its all-new electric SUV, the GLC EV.
The vehicle will make its official debut at the 2025 Munich Auto Show (IAA Mobility) on September 7.
According to the German automaker, the GLC EV will mark a significant shift in Mercedes-Benz’s design language. The most notable feature is the introduction of an entirely new grille – a design icon that has been associated with the three-pointed star brand for decades.
The new grille features a chrome frame, a mesh-like design with a frosted glass effect, and subtle LED trim lighting. Even without revealing its final form, Mercedes-Benz hints that the design draws inspiration from classic models like the W108 and 600 Pullman, iconic representatives of the brand’s design heritage. Notably, the grille is capable of displaying up to 942 animated pixels, described by Mercedes as “bringing the SUV to life.”
Gorden Wagener, Global Design Chief of Mercedes-Benz, stated, “The new grille is not just the face of the GLC EV but also reshapes the entire brand identity. It blends timeless design principles with a modern vision, making our vehicles more recognizable than ever.”
The GLC EV doesn’t merely offer a unique exterior but also promises a distinct driving experience. This SUV is equipped with the ultra-wide MBUX Hyperscreen, running on the new MB.OS operating system, developed in-house by Mercedes-Benz. This system integrates artificial intelligence (AI) for deeper personalization and even supports 3D gaming.
The GLC EV also introduces the “Sensual Purity 2.0” design language, the next phase in Mercedes-Benz’s design philosophy, emphasizing simplicity, purity, and a blend of luxury and modernity.
The launch of the GLC EV not only expands Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle portfolio but is also a strategic move to reposition the brand in the era of electrification. With its groundbreaking design and advanced technology, the GLC EV is poised to become the benchmark for future Mercedes-Benz models.
