According to Carscoops, Hyundai’s high-performance N division is growing rapidly, with the addition of several electric options, including the Ioniq 5 N, and the soon-to-be-released Ioniq 6 N.
While the Hyundai Elantra N retains its internal combustion engine in North America, tightening emissions regulations in Europe have led to the phase-out of high-performance gasoline-powered hatchbacks like the i20 N and i30 N.
These developments have sparked rumors that Hyundai N will soon undergo full electrification, similar to Kia GT. However, the South Korean automaker has no immediate plans to eliminate internal combustion engines from its high-performance division.
In an interview with Autocar, Joon Park, Vice President of Hyundai N and head of the company’s global marketing strategy group, dismissed the assumption that the N division will exclusively feature electric vehicles in the future.
“The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N will be introduced soon, but we are not limiting ourselves to electric-only models,” said Joon Park.

He stated that Hyundai N is open to exploring various ideas for high-performance vehicles but did not elaborate on the types of powertrains that could be utilized.
Recently, the Hyundai Group confirmed the development of multiple vehicles with hybrid and EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) systems. These vehicles will complement the company’s current electric car lineup and reduce reliance on charging infrastructure.
Not all of the above options align with the performance focus of the Hyundai N division, but Genesis, a luxury brand under the Hyundai Group, is taking a similar approach. The brand is expected to launch the Magma sub-brand, combining high-performance with different types of powertrains.

Going back to 2017, the Hyundai i30 N marked the beginning of the company’s high-performance division. Since then, high-performance variants have been added to the i20, Kona, Veloster, Elantra, and most recently, the Ioniq 5.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N will be the next model to join the N high-performance lineup.
Another potential contender is the production version of the Vision N 74 Concept, positioned as a limited-production model. At its debut, the concept featured a hydrogen-electric hybrid setup with a maximum output of 670 horsepower, although it is unclear if a similar powertrain will be used for the commercial version.
