The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is not for the faint-hearted. This German-engineered powerhouse is a beast on the road and an even more formidable force when enhanced by the Manthey treatment. It’s a combination that will strike fear into the hearts of even the most seasoned drivers.
Even in its original form, the 911 GT3 RS is not a car for everyone. While it’s road legal, it’s designed for the track, with every detail screaming speed and raw power.
At the heart of this machine is a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated, flat-six engine that pumps out a staggering 518 horsepower at a dizzying 9,000 rpm. With summer tires, this beast can reach a top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h).
But raw power is nothing without control. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a precision instrument, engineered with components that keep it glued to the track through every twist, turn, and straight.
The standard 911 GT3 RS offers plenty of options for an exhilarating drive, but if you want to experience this Porsche at its most extreme, the Manthey-equipped version is your ticket to flight. However, you’ll need to be an exceptional driver to handle this level of performance.
This variant is essentially a factory-built 911 GT3 RS, enhanced with special components and tweaks designed by Porsche with support from Manthey Racing. These cars are rare, and Porsche has just announced that one will be available for customers to experience at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, as part of their Porsche Track Experience (PTX) program.
According to the announcement, the car will only be offered in the most advanced courses of their professional driving instruction. This means it will be reserved for drivers who have graduated from programs like the three-day Masters RS, which is designed for newcomers to high-performance cars and leads to an SCCA Competition License.
The second step to earning your seat in the Manthey-equipped Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the Masters RSR program. Over four days, Porsche instructors will guide you through data analysis, video analysis, and driving skills, ultimately preparing you for an SCCA Competition License.
Finally, the Masters TR program is an exclusive, invitation-only, two-day course designed to perfect your skills. This is what you need to get behind the wheel of this special Porsche.
The Manthey body kit is all about optimizing the 911 GT3 RS for the track. It features aerodynamic enhancements that generate a significant increase in downforce (around 20% more than the standard model), including a larger front splitter, a double-decker rear wing, a redesigned Gurney flap, and a wider rear diffuser.
Together, these improvements generate over 2,200 lbs of downforce at 177 mph (285 km/h) without adding drag. Coincidentally, the engineers also intervened with the drag reduction system (DRS) on the rear wing, equipping it with larger end plates.
The rear wheels are now shrouded in carbon fiber aerodynamic discs to improve airflow, while a carbon fiber panel is fitted to the rear window area. Up top, a set of six roof-mounted air vents serve the same purpose.
While the GT3 RS’s powertrain remains unchanged, Porsche and Manthey have fine-tuned the semi-active coil-over suspension to handle the increased downforce. Specifically, spring rates have been increased by 30% at the front and half of that at the rear.
New dampers have been added to provide independently adjustable compression and rebound settings, and the car is also fitted with a race-spec brake system.
Porsche states that the 911 GT3 RS equipped with the Manthey kit will be ready to tear up the 2.38-mile (3.8 km) Barber Motorsports Park track in the spring of next year.
Why is the Ferrari 812 GTS More Expensive Despite Ceasing Production?
The Ferrari 812 GTS is a masterpiece of automotive engineering, boasting an array of cutting-edge technologies while staying true to the iconic V12, naturally aspirated bloodline that has made the Prancing Horse marque so renowned. This fusion of innovation and heritage has led to a surge in value for pre-owned models, with prices soaring to at least 1.3 times their original asking price.
