While the future of the Nissan Altima in North America remains uncertain, its twin vehicle in China shows no signs of slowing down. Known as the Nissan Teana in foreign markets, this car is produced by the joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng.
This D-segment sedan is now preparing for a mid-life upgrade in the Chinese market. Although Dongfeng Nissan has not officially confirmed the upgrade of the Teana, images of the car have appeared on the website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. These images have revealed a clear glimpse of the new Teana’s upcoming design.

As such, it can be seen that the car draws design inspiration from the brand’s newest electrified sedans. The most noticeable change is at the front, where the car has been redesigned with darker LED headlights, combined with a wider grille, integrated with a new daytime running light strip, and more intricate detailing.

Moreover, the 2026 Teana boasts a larger air intake in the front bumper, styled similarly to the latest N6 and N7 models. These changes aim to modernize the Teana and create a unified image with Nissan’s newest electrified vehicles.
On the sides, this D-segment sedan remains largely unchanged, except for the wheel design. Depending on the trim level, the car will be fitted with two-tone alloy wheels, with a contrasting upper portion, adding a sense of premium styling.

At the rear, the car features darkened LED taillights stretching across the width of the vehicle, along with a illuminated Nissan logo in the center, reminiscent of the N6 and N7 models. The trunk lid and rear bumper have been simplified in design, while the exhaust pipes have been hidden, creating a neat appearance from the rear.

Thanks to the new design elements, the overall length of the 2026 Teana has increased by 14 mm, reaching 4,920 mm. Meanwhile, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,825 mm.
Images of the interior have not yet been revealed, but it is expected that the dashboard will be refreshed, featuring a digital instrument cluster and upgraded technology to maintain its competitiveness.
The most powerful version of the Nissan Teana 2026 continues to employ a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 240 horsepower. The power is sent to the front wheels through an Xtronic CVT automatic transmission with eight simulated gears.
Interestingly, the car now offers a new engine option for the base model, generating 142 horsepower, which is lower than the 154 horsepower produced by the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine of the previous generation. The reason for this reduction in power remains unclear.

The 2026 Nissan Teana is expected to be launched in the Chinese market by the end of this year. The current model is priced between 179,800 and 239,800 Chinese yuan (approximately $26,290 to $35,120). It will continue to compete against rivals such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in the Chinese market.
In the US, the current-generation Nissan Altima was introduced in 2018 and received a mid-life refresh in 2022. Another refresh could potentially extend the lifespan of the vehicle for a few more years, especially with the relaxed regulations for gasoline engines under the Trump administration. However, rumors of the Altima’s discontinuation persist.
