After two consecutive years of declining sales, Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its most ambitious product plan in its history.
According to reports sent to investors, Mercedes-Benz acknowledged that 2024 was not a positive year as global sales decreased by 3% compared to the same period last year. The first half of 2025 was even more concerning, with a 6.2% decline.
Despite this, the German automaker remains optimistic due to its new product plan, described as “the largest product launch in the history of Mercedes-Benz.”
In 2026, Mercedes will introduce 18 new models, two of which have already been launched: the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake. Notably, the company lists separate variants for gasoline and electric engines, indicating that the strategy of offering both traditional and electric vehicles will continue for at least the next few years.
In the compact segment, Mercedes plans to introduce one model with an internal combustion engine and two electric vehicles. These could be the next-generation GLA and GLB, the brand’s flagship urban SUVs.
Meanwhile, the mid-range segment, represented by the C-Class and GLC, is likely to receive a mid-life upgrade, along with additional pure electric versions.
Most notably, the luxury segment, including the S-Class, EQS, Maybach, and AMG, will have nine new models, comprising four with internal combustion engines and five EVs. Mercedes confirms that the S-Class will receive a significant upgrade with an investment “higher than usual.” The EQS will also be refreshed to enhance its competitiveness.
The year 2027 promises to be just as busy, with Mercedes planning to introduce eight internal combustion engine models and six electric vehicles. Notably, the company will focus on expanding its luxury car group with five zero-emission models.
In addition to upgrades and generational changes, Mercedes will also expand its product portfolio with completely new models. Among them is the “Little G,” a small electric SUV likened to the “little brother” of the G-Class, promising to retain the rugged style but in a more compact and accessible package.
Alongside its main vehicle lines, Mercedes-AMG will also launch its first dedicated electric models. Leading the way is the GT XX Concept, an electric super sedan that will be commercialized, along with an SUV variant. Additionally, Mercedes confirms that an entirely new V8 engine is in development, slated for release in 2027 and expected to be in use until at least the mid-2030s.
However, the future of the C63 AMG remains uncertain. While fans hoped for the return of the V8, Mercedes-AMG has stated that it will not be re-equipped for the mid-life upgrade of the C63. Instead, reports suggest that both the C63 and C43 will be discontinued, making way for the C53 with an I6 engine.
Mercedes has also confirmed that it will unify the design language across its gasoline and electric vehicle lines, ending the use of the characteristic EQ super-sleek aerodynamic styling. This strategic adjustment comes after the company realized that an approach heavily focused on aerodynamics was not as appealing to customers as expected.
Despite the challenges, Mercedes-Benz is preparing for a far-reaching product restructuring on a scale never seen before. By maintaining both paths of internal combustion engines and electric vehicles, the company demonstrates its flexibility during this transitional phase. The return of the V8, the “Little G,” and the electric AMG supercars also open up a rich future for customers across all segments.
