All 70 units of the limited-edition BMW Speedtop found homes shortly after their debut at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event in Lake Como, Italy.

While the price was not disclosed, Zipse described it as belonging to an “unprecedented price segment.” Insider sources hint at a price tag of around $500,000.

Speedtop is based on the 8 Series coupe but features a unique shooting brake design, a two-door wagon with an extended roofline and a lengthened rear end.

BMW equipped the Speedtop with their most powerful V8 engine. Although exact specifications were not mentioned, it is likely the twin-turbocharged 4.4L engine used in the M8, producing 617 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Speedtop is the second special project based on the 8 Series that BMW has unveiled at Villa d’Este. In 2024, they introduced the Skytop, a two-door targa-top coupe limited to just 50 units. While the Speedtop has a larger production run, both are extremely rare and likely to be seen only at exclusive events like the Monterey Car Week.

With the rising demand for limited-edition sports cars, BMW is leveraging its concept unveilings at Villa d’Este to reshape its brand image in the premium segment.

The company also confirmed that their “small series” production team is reserving a spot for the high-performance BMW M division, raising expectations for more unique models in the future. One of the most anticipated models among enthusiasts is the return of the iconic BMW M1 in a modern guise.
