Today, VinFast inaugurates its Electric Vehicle (EV) Assembly Plant in SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi city, Tamil Nadu, India, marking a new step in its global expansion journey.

The event also reaffirms the company’s long-term and serious commitment to the world’s third-largest automotive market and demonstrates VinFast’s belief in India’s strategic role in the future of the global electric vehicle industry.

VinFast Tamil Nadu is the third factory to officially commence operations and the fifth project in VinFast’s global factory chain. It is also the first facility inaugurated outside of Vietnam, showcasing the brand’s global expansion vision and large-scale project deployment capabilities.

The plant occupies a total area of 160 hectares and is equipped with internationally standardized production lines, high automation, and modern technology. The complex comprises several workshops, including Body Welding, Painting, Assembly, Quality Inspection, and a Logistics warehouse. The project also includes a cluster of auxiliary factories for local contractors, expected to expand in the coming years.

When fully operational, the factory is expected to create direct employment for 3,000-3,500 local workers and indirect employment for thousands more in the supply ecosystem, contributing to the socio-economic development of Tamil Nadu. This will propel the region to become a manufacturing hub in India and potentially emerge as South Asia’s EV capital in the near future.

In the initial phase, VinFast Tamil Nadu will focus on assembling two premium electric vehicle models, VF 7 (C-segment) and VF 6 (B-segment). The initial capacity is 50,000 units per year, scalable to 150,000 units annually to meet market demand.

With the inauguration of the Tamil Nadu factory, VinFast takes a significant step towards its target of achieving 200,000 vehicle sales in 2025 and a production capacity of 1 million units per year by 2030. This event underscores VinFast’s vision and commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and a greener future in India and globally.

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, VinFast Asia’s CEO, emphasized: “The VinFast Tamil Nadu factory is a strategic milestone that reinforces our long-term commitment to the Indian market and lays a solid foundation for VinFast’s sustainable growth. This facility will enable us to offer Indian consumers high-quality electric vehicles at competitive prices.”

In the coming years, the factory will continue to expand its capacity to meet the growing demand, and VinFast aims to develop this site into the company’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In fact, VinFast has already received initial orders from several countries in these regions. Through close collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, VinFast is striving to transform the region into the ‘EV capital of South Asia,’ catering to both the dynamic domestic market and regional expansion plans.”

The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant not only expands the company’s global production capacity but also significantly contributes to India’s green industrial development goals. The factory will prioritize working with domestic suppliers, promote localization of the supply chain, transfer technology, and enhance local workforce capabilities.

Since its launch in India, VinFast has aggressively pursued a comprehensive EV ecosystem model, encompassing assembly, distribution, after-sales service, and recycling. The inauguration of the 160-hectare factory in Tamil Nadu is a strategic piece in completing this value chain. Simultaneously, VinFast has partnered with multiple dealer agencies in key cities and collaborated with entities like RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to establish a digital service and customer care system. VinFast has also joined forces with BatX Energies for battery recycling, embracing a circular production model and sustainable development in the world’s third-largest automotive market.
