On the afternoon of August 12, a new record was set in Vietnam’s vehicle license plate auction market as the plate number 99A-999.99 from Bac Ninh province fetched a winning bid of over VND 21.8 billion ($926,000).
According to the organizing unit, today’s auction consisted of eight sessions, evenly divided between the morning and afternoon, with each session lasting 25 minutes and a total of 80,000 license plates up for grabs. Of these, approximately 50,000 were motorcycle plates and 30,000 were car plates.
The highlight of the afternoon session was the plate number 99A-999.99 – a sequence of numbers considered extremely rare and auspicious by collectors. Aside from this record-breaking bid, several other license plates also fetched high prices, including 15K-699.99, which sold for over VND 1 billion, and 30B-299.99, which closed at VND 915 million.
