The Vietnamese auto market currently offers a range of models with significant
discounts, with promotional values reaching up to hundreds of millions of
dong. Most of these are older models, offered by manufacturers and dealers
with the aim of clearing out inventory.
Hyundai Santa Fe – Discount of over 200 million dong
Speaking to Tri Thức – Znews, a sales consultant at a Hyundai dealership in
Southern Vietnam shared that the Hyundai Santa Fe is offering a maximum
discount of 200 million dong for vehicles manufactured in 2024.
“The dealership currently has 9 units of the Hyundai Santa Fe with 2024 VIN.
This promotional program aims to clear out our inventory,” the sales consultant
explained.

Notably, a Hyundai dealership in Northern Vietnam is offering an even higher
discount, allowing the Hyundai Santa Fe Exclusive version, originally priced at
1.069 billion dong, to be purchased for 855 million dong.
This significant price reduction reflects the challenges faced by the Hyundai
Santa Fe in the Vietnamese market since the launch of the new generation. From
the beginning of the year to the end of May, Santa Fe sales in Vietnam never
exceeded 500 units per month, with a total of 1,136 vehicles sold.
The lackluster sales performance has widened the gap with its competitor, the
Ford Everest. During the same period, Ford Everest sold 4,012 units in
Vietnam, leading the midsize SUV segment and ranking within the top 10 best-selling
vehicles as of May.
In its new generation, the Hyundai Santa Fe underwent a design change,
discontinued the hybrid option, and is priced at 1.069-1.365 billion dong for its
5 versions. The Ford Everest, on the other hand, is still imported from Thailand
and offers 6 versions with prices ranging from 1.099-1.545 billion dong.
Honda Accord – Discount of nearly 300 million dong
The midsize sedan segment in Vietnam is facing challenges. Except for the
Toyota Camry, which maintains stable sales, other models such as the Kia K5,
Honda Accord, and Mazda6 are not performing as well.
Specifically, the Honda Accord, a model imported from Thailand, has repeatedly
received promotions of up to hundreds of millions of dong in the early months of
the year, but its sales remain lackluster.

Honda dealers are offering a discount of nearly 300 million dong on the |
In July, Honda did not continue the promotion for the Accord, but some Honda
dealerships are still offering separate promotions with a value of over 200 million
dong.
When contacted, a Honda dealership in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed a discount of
270 million dong for the Honda Accord. According to our research, a Honda dealer in
Northern Vietnam is offering a discount of up to 280 million dong, reducing the
price of the Honda Accord from 1.329 billion dong to 1.049 billion dong.
While the number of vehicles eligible for this discount is limited, and most of
them bear the 2023 VIN, the dealer’s promotion makes the Honda Accord significantly
more affordable compared to the Toyota Camry (priced from 1.22 billion
dong). The post-discount price of the Honda Accord remains higher than the Mazda6
2.5 Signature (899 million dong) and the Kia K5 2.5 GT-Line (957 million dong).
The future of most midsize sedans in Vietnam is uncertain. As of June, the Kia
K5 sold 118 units in Vietnam, making it the slowest-selling model in Kia’s
automotive portfolio.
Honda Accord sales from the beginning of the year reached 17 units, while the
Mazda6, despite selling 56 units in the first six months, has experienced “zero
sales” in the last two reporting periods.
The Toyota Camry is the only bright spot in this segment, with sales of 1,163
units, including 685 hybrid versions.
Subaru SUVs – Discount of up to 230 million dong
In July, Subaru continued to offer cash discounts to customers purchasing its
two imported SUV models: the Forester and the Crosstrek.
The three versions of the Subaru Forester are currently priced at 799-969
million dong at dealerships, equivalent to a minimum discount of 170 million dong
and a maximum discount of 230 million dong compared to the listed price. The
highest discount applies to the Forester 2.0 i-S EyeSight, while the base model
Forester 2.0 i-L receives a discount of 170 million dong.

The Subaru Foresters eligible for the July discount have a 2024 VIN and belong
to the last batch imported from Thailand.
The Japanese automaker has confirmed that it will soon stop importing the Forester
from Thailand and switch to imports from Japan, a move that could lead to
significant price adjustments for the model in the future.
As for the Subaru Crosstrek, customers purchasing the vehicle in July are eligible
for a maximum discount of 139 million dong, applicable to both versions.
Specifically, the 2.0 i-S EyeSight version of the compact SUV is now available
for 999 million dong, equivalent to a discount of 99 million dong.
The version equipped with the e-BOXER Hybrid engine, originally priced at 1.268
billion dong, is now offered at 1.129 billion dong, representing a discount of 139
million dong.

The Subaru Crosstrek is priced at the higher end of the compact SUV |
Despite the substantial discounts, the Subaru Crosstrek’s pricing remains
significantly higher than most of its competitors in the compact SUV segment in
Vietnam. Some notable competitors include the Mitsubishi Xforce (599-705 million
dong), Hyundai Creta (599-715 million dong), Kia Seltos (599-764 million
dong), Skoda Kushaq (599-649 million dong), and a range of Chinese models such as
the Geely Coolray (538-628 million dong), Omoda C5 (539-669 million dong), and Lynk
& Co 06 (679-729 million dong).
This segment also includes electric vehicle options such as the VinFast VF
6 (689-749 million dong), MG4 EV (828-948 million dong), and the newly launched
BYD Atto 2 (669 million dong).
