THACO recently unveiled the John Cooper Works (JCW) special edition of the Cooper 3-door, the most powerful and expensive variant in the 3-door Cooper range.

The JCW, imported from the UK and priced at 2.529 billion VND in Vietnam, offers a thrilling driving experience with a price tag of 430 million VND more than the standard version.

JCW is Mini’s sports car division, known for its performance-oriented engine, transmission, and suspension tweaks. Most Mini models have a JCW version available.

The JCW retains the compact and stylish design of the standard Mini but adds a host of sporty features, including a black grille, racing-inspired bonnet stripes, a central exhaust, and a rear bumper with brake lights near the spoiler.

This JCW edition also boasts a unique aerodynamic package, with front air intakes for engine and brake cooling, and airflow-directing vents at the rear. It sits on adaptive sports suspension and comes with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels and high-performance red brake calipers, giving it a more aggressive stance than the standard model.

Inside, the JCW cabin maintains the standard layout but with added sports-focused details. A central 9.3-inch OLED screen can change interfaces according to driving modes: Go-Kart, Green, or Personal. Mini has also used a combination of leather and polyester fabric on the dashboard, door panels, and armrests for a unique touch.

Standard equipment includes electrically adjustable and memory front seats with massage function, a panoramic sunroof, and a Harman Kardon sound system. The 3-spoke steering wheel features JCW badging, fabric at the 6 o’clock position, and paddle shifters.

One standout feature is the Boost Mode. By holding the (-) paddle on the left side of the steering wheel for a few seconds, the driver activates an optimized state for the engine, transmission, suspension, and throttle response, similar to some Porsche and Mercedes-AMG models. This mode delivers peak performance for about 10 seconds.

Powering the JCW is a 2.0-liter TwinTurbo engine, shared with the standard model but tuned to produce 231 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive.
