YANGWANG, a premium brand under BYD, has officially set a new global speed record for electric vehicles (EVs), reaching an impressive 472.41 km/h at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany.
This remarkable feat was achieved on August 8, 2025, with the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition supercar, propelling YANGWANG to the forefront as the brand with the fastest electric vehicle in the world.
Marc Basseng, a professional racer who set a record in 2024, proudly shared his excitement after breaking the record with the YANGWANG U9: “Last year, I thought I had reached the limit. But here I am, just a year later, at the same test track, breaking my own record thanks to YANGWANG’s innovative technologies.”
The YANGWANG U9 Track Edition is built on the e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X core technology, which are also found in the commercial YANGWANG U9. Notably, it features a super-high-voltage platform of 1,200V, the first of its kind in mass production, paired with an advanced thermal management system for extreme performance conditions. This combination of proven technology and groundbreaking innovations has elevated the U9 Track Edition to unprecedented heights.
To conquer the world record, the car needed both enduring power and absolute stability at high speeds. The e⁴ platform, with its four independent motors capable of 30,000 rpm, delivers an astonishing 555 kW of power to each motor, resulting in a total system output of over 3,000 PS. Consequently, the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS/ton, placing it among the world’s leading supercars.
Beyond its raw power, the e⁴ platform’s independent torque control continuously monitors road feedback and adjusts the torque of each wheel over 100 times per second. Even at extreme velocities, the car maintains stability, traction control, and maximum grip. Additionally, the intelligent DiSus-X suspension system allows for independent adjustment of vertical oscillation at each wheel during acceleration, sharp cornering, or driving on rough surfaces. This not only reduces pitch and roll, instilling confidence in the driver, but also optimizes the contact area between the tire and the road, enhancing grip and safety.
The YANGWANG U9 Track Edition retains the aerodynamic design of its commercial counterpart while offering an optional carbon fiber front splitter that has entered mass production, showcasing the brand’s scientific approach and technical reliability at super-speed conditions.
To enhance tire durability and performance at extreme speeds, YANGWANG collaborated with Giti Tire to develop a semi-slick tire specifically for racing, utilizing data collected from tests in Germany since 2024. This tire is optimized in terms of compound materials, tread pattern, and a new wheel processing technology combined with a special lubricant solution, reducing rim slip and wear while increasing stability and precision during high-speed maneuvers.
