Volvo recently commenced production of its luxury SUV, the XC70, at its Tai Zhou factory in China. This highly anticipated vehicle will be available for pre-order at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 27th.
The Volvo XC70 is positioned in the D-segment SUV class, fitting neatly between the 60 and 90 series. Built on the SMA Super Hybrid Architecture platform, it boasts impressive dimensions: 4,815 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,895 mm.
The Volvo XC70 showcases a fresh design language, featuring a closed-off grille similar to that of the EX90 and distinctive “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights above the main headlights. Its aerodynamic efficiency is enhanced by full-body cladding, hidden door handles, frameless windows, and frameless side mirrors. The rear retains the signature “Viking Axe” taillights, with the wiper discreetly integrated above the rear glass.
Under the hood, the XC70 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5T gasoline engine (producing 160 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque) with three electric motors: P1 (80 horsepower, for power generation and starting), P2 (143 horsepower, driving the front wheels), and P3 (209 horsepower, driving the rear wheels). This setup is paired with a DHT 3-speed transmission, enabling seven different hybrid modes for flexible energy management.
The XC70 offers an all-electric range of over 200 kilometers and a combined range of approximately 1,200 kilometers. Even when the battery is depleted, it maintains impressive fuel efficiency, consuming just 5.85 liters per 100 kilometers (WLTC cycle).
With a projected price tag of around 360,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 1.31 billion VND), the XC70 is set to make a significant impact in the automotive market.
