For many years, car enthusiasts in Vietnam have been familiar with a red Opel GT owned by another individual, which occasionally appears at events. Therefore, the emergence of the silver GT has caught many by surprise and has led to admiration for Vu’s dedication to acquiring rare and unique vehicles.

The Opel GT was first introduced as a concept car at the Paris Motor Show in 1965 and went into production from 1968 to 1973. Over five years, more than 103,000 units were manufactured.

The car was offered with two engine options: a 1.1L engine producing 67 horsepower and a more powerful 1.9L engine generating 102 horsepower. These engines were paired with a 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission.

One of the most distinctive features of the Opel GT is its unique pop-up headlights. Unlike many contemporary sports cars, the GT’s headlights are manually operated using a mechanical lever inside the cockpit, requiring a counter-clockwise rotation to activate. This detail showcases the car’s intriguing design and the engineering philosophy of the 1960s.

Additionally, the Opel GT’s compact fastback body style forgoes a traditional trunk, with luggage space located behind the seats, above the spare tire and tool kit—a unique arrangement for a coupe.
