According to Carscoops, Kia is conducting a recall in the US to address an issue with decorative trim pieces on the Kia K5 models. The recall affects a total of 100,063 vehicles manufactured between 2023 and 2025.

The decorative trim piece on the C-pillar of these vehicles may become loose and detach, posing a potential hazard to other road users and increasing the risk of accidents. Kia first became aware of this issue in 2023 and implemented a repair program to address the potential for trim piece delamination.

However, by 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Defects Investigation Office received four reports of decorative trim delamination and contacted Kia. While Kia initially believed that this issue did not pose a significant safety risk, the NHTSA disagreed, citing other recalls related to decorative trim delamination.

Kia re-evaluated the situation and discovered 4,082 reports of missing C-pillar trim pieces, leading to the decision to issue a recall. The recall documents state that the issue is caused by insufficient adhesive layers, which can cause the trim piece to gradually delaminate and loosen, eventually falling off. This issue is not immediate, and vehicle owners may only notice loose trim pieces or hear rattling noises during operation.

Kia dealers will inspect and replace the C-pillar trim pieces as necessary. The new trim piece design incorporates improved adhesives and a mechanical retention mechanism to prevent future occurrences.
