Nissan has witnessed a notable surge in sales for its latest Z sports car in the first half of 2025, totaling nearly 3,800 units during this period. This puts it well ahead of its main rival, the Toyota GR Supra.

While a sub-4,000 sales figure in six months isn’t remarkable, the American sports car landscape has changed, and even the segment-leading Ford Mustang sold fewer than 24,000 units of the seventh-generation S650 after a significant 14% drop compared to the first half of 2024.

Such is the state of affairs, and we’re genuinely pleased that Nissan—an automaker facing financial headwinds—remains committed and hasn’t given up on the Z sports car. Even better, they’re updating the lineup for the 2026 model year with a new Z Heritage Edition package that evokes the classic 300ZX and the most beloved color of the now-defunct GT-R.

The 2026 Nissan Z pays homage to the Nissan 300ZX – the fourth generation of this lineage, also known as the Z32, the second car to bear this moniker. It harkens back to the 1990s, and the new model was unveiled to enthusiasts at the 38th annual ZCON, the international Z car convention hosted by the Z Club.

The 2026 Nissan Z sports car lineup comprises three trims – Sport, Performance, and Nismo – and is expected to arrive at dealerships nationwide by the end of this month, with a starting MSRP of $42,970.

This pricing is on par with the 2025 Nissan Z, excluding destination and handling charges. However, if you want to opt for the Heritage Edition package, you first need to upgrade to the Z Performance, which also carries the same MSRP as before – $52,970. Adding the Heritage Edition for $2,940 brings the total for a 2026 Nissan Z Performance with the Heritage Edition to $55,910.

For that money, the Japanese automaker outfits the car with 19-inch RAYS wheels in a bronze finish, a carbon fiber rear spoiler with a classic “Twin Turbo” badge, and “Twin Turbo” bronze graphics on both sides of the body. Inside, it features unique door sill plates and floor mats, with the final touch being the Midnight Purple exterior color, a hallmark of the legendary GT-R lineage.

Meanwhile, the 2026 Nissan Z Sport and Performance debut with a new two-tone Boulder Gray paint job paired with a black roof. The Nissan Z Sport and Performance for 2026 are powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 400 horsepower, while the Nismo variant ups the ante with 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.
