Many real estate tycoons in Vietnam indulge in owning and collecting luxury cars, supercars, and high-end SUVs. Among them is a prominent Hanoi-based real estate group known for its blockbuster projects in Thai Nguyen.
Recently, the parking lot of their headquarters building showcased an array of expensive vehicles. However, the spotlight was stolen by a trio of ultra-luxury cars: the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman, Rolls-Royce Ghost, and Rolls-Royce Phantom.
First, let’s talk about the Rolls-Royce Ghost, a Series I model that hasn’t been upgraded with Series II headlights. Designed by Helmut Riedl and Andreas Thurner, the Ghost was initially developed to compete with more affordable alternatives to the Phantom, such as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Bentley Flying Spur. However, it ended up surpassing both in terms of luxury and performance.
Beyond its stunning exterior and opulent interior, the Rolls-Royce Ghost boasts a formidable engine. Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine, delivering a maximum power output of 563 horsepower and a peak torque of 850 Nm at 1,600 rpm.
Paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, the Ghost accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.
Parked beside the British luxury car is the German masterpiece, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman. Its grandeur far surpasses even the Rolls-Royce Phantom, let alone the Ghost. With a length of 6.5 meters, the Pullman exudes unmatched elegance when parked next to the Ghost.
In fact, a side-profile shot of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman barely captures the Ghost parked beside it. Globally, the Pullman is priced over $600,000. In Vietnam, only one unit bears a white license plate, while the other two roam the streets with diplomatic plates.
Identifying the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman is effortless, thanks to its size and three-compartment design, making it a head-turner on the road. Its exterior impresses, but the interior is where true luxury resides. The passenger compartment rivals a 5-star hotel suite, featuring four independent business-class seats facing each other with the most legroom in its class.
The seats recline up to 43.5 degrees and come with electrically adjustable footrests. The cabin also includes handcrafted silver Champagne flutes by Robbe & Berking, a worktable, and a refrigerator.
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine, producing 621 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque—99 horsepower and 170 Nm more than the S600 Pullman. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. As the pinnacle of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, its fuel consumption is equally impressive, averaging 14.6 liters per 100 km.
The most striking vehicle in this lineup is the gold-plated Rolls-Royce Phantom. This model stands out with its 24k gold accents on the grille, Spirit of Ecstasy emblem, mirrors, headlight/taillight trim, fog lights, and wheels. Even the original chrome trim has been replaced with 24k gold.
This older-generation Phantom is equipped with a 6.75-liter V12 engine, generating 453 horsepower at 5,350 rpm and 720 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.
