While SUVs dominate the global automotive industry, Europe remains a stronghold for hatchbacks and wagons.
To maintain its position in this segment, Peugeot recently unveiled the mid-life facelift of the 308, boasting bold design, modern interiors, and a diverse powertrain lineup ranging from petrol, diesel, and hybrid to fully electric options.
Compared to the 2021 debut, the 2026 Peugeot 308 features significant front-end changes. The headlights are now separated, with claw-like LED daytime running lights positioned above and the main beams housed in glossy black bezels. GT and GT Premium variants also include Matrix LED technology and sequential turn signals.
A standout feature is the illuminated lion logo, a first for Peugeot, signaling a new design language for future models. The rear sees minimal changes, primarily the standard “claw” LED taillights across all variants.
The 2026 Peugeot 308 introduces new exterior colors: Lagoa Blue for the hatchback and Ingaro Blue for the wagon, paired with 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin retains Peugeot’s signature i-Cockpit design, featuring a compact steering wheel and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster with enhanced 3D graphics. GT and GT Premium models offer Alcantara sports seats and premium amenities like a 10-speaker Focal sound system, massage seats, 8-color ambient lighting, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Peugeot highlights that 31% of interior materials are recycled or repurposed, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.
The 2026 Peugeot 308 stands out with one of the most diverse powertrain options in its class, including:
First, a 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine delivering 129 hp, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Second, a mild-hybrid system combining a 1.2L 3-cylinder engine producing 143 hp with a dual-clutch e-DSC6 gearbox and integrated electric motor.
Third, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup pairing a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for 192 hp, backed by a 17.2 kWh battery. This variant offers up to 85 km of electric-only range.
Lastly, a fully electric version with 154 hp, a 58.4 kWh battery, 452 km range, and fast charging from 20% to 80% in 32 minutes. It also supports V2L technology, enabling the vehicle to act as a mobile power source.
The 2026 Peugeot 308 will launch in Europe and the UK in autumn 2025, competing directly with the Volkswagen Golf, Toyota Corolla, and Honda Civic. Pricing remains undisclosed, but Peugeot is poised to challenge rivals with its distinctive design and extensive powertrain options.
