MPV Sales in August 2025 (units: vehicles)

Mitsubishi Xpander: 906 Units

In August 2025, Mitsubishi sold 906 Xpander units to Vietnamese customers, a significant 41.6% decline. This model also recorded the highest sales decrease in the MPV segment. However, the Mitsubishi Xpander firmly retained its “sales king” title, fending off challenges from other competitors.

Mitsubishi Xpander

The Mitsubishi Xpander’s sales dip is not surprising, given the impact of the Ghost Month in July. Additionally, August 2025 marked the period before the launch of this model’s upgraded version in the Vietnamese market.

The Mitsubishi Xpander boasts several competitive advantages, including an attractive price range of 560 – 698 million VND, a standout design, a spacious interior, and sufficient features. Its “heart” is a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 141 Nm. This engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

Toyota Veloz Cross: 639 Units

Maintaining its second position in the MPV segment is the familiar Toyota Veloz Cross. This model sold 639 units in August 2025, a 20.6% decrease.

Toyota Veloz Cross

Compared to the Mitsubishi Xpander, the Toyota model has a higher starting price, ranging from 638 to 660 million VND. However, it offers features that the Xpander lacks, such as advanced ADAS safety technologies. Additionally, the Toyota Veloz Cross features an eye-catching MPV-SUV hybrid design, diverse features, and a reputable brand.

Under the hood of the Toyota Veloz Cross is a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 138 Nm. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel drive.

Toyota Innova Cross: 577 Units

Right behind the Veloz Cross is its sibling, the Toyota Innova Cross, with 577 units sold. Compared to the previous month, sales of this mid-size MPV decreased by 19.5%.

Toyota Innova Cross

The Toyota Innova Cross stands out with its appealing MPV-SUV hybrid design, a spacious interior, and well-equipped features even in the standard version. This model is currently available in two variants, priced from 825 million to 1.013 billion VND.

The gasoline version of the car uses a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 172 horsepower and a peak torque of 205 Nm. This engine is paired with a Direct Shift CVT transmission. Meanwhile, the hybrid version uses a gasoline engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower, combined with an electric motor producing 111 horsepower and a CVT transmission.

Kia Carnival: 263 Units

The next position in the MPV segment belongs to the Kia Carnival. This large MPV recorded only 263 units sold, a 33.9% decrease.

Kia Carnival

The Kia Carnival has a relatively high price, ranging from 1.299 to 1.849 billion VND, but it still attracts a stable customer base thanks to its modern design, extremely spacious interior due to its large size, convenient electric sliding doors, and rich features. Notably, it is one of the few models in the MPV segment offering a hybrid engine option.

Specifically, the hybrid version of the Kia Carnival uses a hybrid system consisting of a 1.6L turbocharged SmartStream gasoline engine, an electric motor, a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The car has a combined output of 242 horsepower and an average fuel consumption of 4.95 L/100 km.

The remaining versions of the car are equipped with a 2.2L Smartstream diesel engine, producing a maximum power of 199 horsepower and a peak torque of 441 Nm. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Honda BR-V: 245 Units

Contrary to July 2025, the Honda BR-V experienced a sales decline in August, with only 245 units sold, a 26.4% decrease. However, it rose to the fifth position in the segment, replacing the Kia Carens.

Honda BR-V

The Honda BR-V is highly regarded in Vietnam for its design, interior space, and driving experience. Additionally, it comes standard with advanced ADAS safety features. However, its price is relatively high for a compact MPV, ranging from 629 to 705 million VND.

Powering the Honda BR-V is a 1.5L i-VTEC 4-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering a maximum power of 119 horsepower and a peak torque of 145 Nm. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel drive.

Kia Carens: 232 Units

In August 2025, the Kia Carens dropped to the sixth position in the MPV segment. Its sales decreased by 37.9% to 232 units.

Kia Carens

The Kia Carens is currently available in Vietnam with four variants, priced from 634 to 769 million VND. In September, the car received a price reduction of 25-35 million VND, depending on the variant.

Compared to its initial launch in Vietnam, the Kia Carens has reduced both the number of variants and engine options. It now offers only two engine types: a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum power of 113 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm, paired with an IVT transmission; and a 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 138 horsepower and 242 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Hyundai Stargazer: 228 Units

The Hyundai Stargazer was one of the few models in the MPV segment to experience a sales increase in August 2025, with 228 units sold, a 15.1% growth.

Hyundai Stargazer

With a price range of only 489 – 599 million VND, the Hyundai Stargazer is one of the most affordable MPV models in the Vietnamese market. However, its design is somewhat polarizing.

Powering this Korean model is a 1.5L Smartstream G 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine, producing 115 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm. This engine is paired with an intelligent iVT transmission and front-wheel drive.

Suzuki XL7: 219 Units

Like the Hyundai Stargazer, the Suzuki XL7 had a successful sales month in August 2025, with a 19% increase to 219 units.

Suzuki XL7

The Suzuki XL7’s attractive price, ranging from 599.9 to 607.9 million VND, is its standout feature. However, this price point does not compensate for its unappealing design and features.

Additionally, the Suzuki XL7 features a mild hybrid system for fuel efficiency. This system includes a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 103 horsepower and 138 Nm, combined with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), a lithium-ion battery, and a 4-speed automatic transmission, achieving an average fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100 km.

Hyundai Custin: 118 Units

The Hyundai Custin was the only model in the MPV segment with unchanged sales in August 2025, maintaining 118 units. This figure is significantly lower than that of its direct competitor, the Toyota Innova Cross.

Hyundai Custin

The Hyundai Custin offers a more affordable price, ranging from 820 to 974 million VND, a larger size, and better features than the Toyota Innova Cross. However, its “Made in China” origin and lack of a hybrid engine option may have impacted its sales.

The Hyundai Custin is available in Vietnam with two gasoline engine options: a 2.0L Turbo GDi and a 1.5L Turbo GDi, producing 236 horsepower/353 Nm and 170 horsepower/253 Nm, respectively. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Toyota Avanza Premio: 80 Units

In August 2025, the Toyota Avanza Premio sold fewer than 100 units, with only 80 units, a 27.9% decrease. It ranked second to last in the MPV segment.

Toyota Avanza Premio

The Toyota Avanza Premio is a more affordable version of the Veloz Cross, targeting service vehicle buyers. Compared to its “twin,” the Avanza Premio is cheaper, priced from 558 to 589 million VND. However, its design and features are less impressive than those of the Veloz Cross.

The Toyota Avanza Premio shares the same engine as the Veloz Cross but offers both CVT and manual transmission options.

Toyota Innova: 28 Units

The last position in the MPV segment belongs to the Toyota Innova, with only 28 units sold, a 26.3% decrease. This model also ranked among the top 10 least-selling cars in August 2025.

Toyota Innova

Recently, Toyota Vietnam confirmed that it would stop selling the Innova in the Vietnamese market. Toyota Vietnam stated that the Innova had sold out and would be discontinued due to a “change in product strategy.” Before its discontinuation, the mid-size MPV was available in only one variant, the 2.0E MT, priced at 755 million VND.

The Toyota Innova is powered by a familiar 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 102 horsepower and 183 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.
