The dealership is listing this Corvette for nearly half a million dollars—a sum that could buy you two brand-new supercars or three to five high-performance sports cars. So, what makes this 1958 Chevrolet Corvette worth a staggering $500,000?
In 1958, Chevrolet focused on its full-size lineup. The introduction of the Impala, along with a complete redesign across the board, propelled the company to the top in the United States. The Impala debuted as the top-tier Bel Air model, achieving top status a year later and eventually becoming America’s best-selling car.
The Corvette line also received upgrades in 1958, starting with larger front and rear bumpers and culminating in the introduction of a 160 mph speedometer. Chevrolet produced only 9,168 Corvettes that year, with the base model priced at $3,591, making it one of the most expensive cars in the U.S.
Optional extras, such as the auxiliary hardtop, could be ordered for $215, pushing the price even higher. Over 61% of buyers opted for this addition.
The engine lineup started with a base configuration producing 230 horsepower, and Corvette buyers could choose from several more powerful options, including a 290-horsepower fuel-injected engine.
The Corvette featured in these images has ditched its small-block engine in favor of a monstrous powerplant, thanks to a recently completed custom build.
The garage reveals the project was finalized in September 2023, and after two years, this Corvette is seeking a new home. It remains in pristine condition, and it’s safe to assume this Corvette hasn’t seen much road time since its completion.
The mechanical upgrades are impressive, including an independent rear suspension, an Art Morrison GT chassis with powder coating, coilovers, Wilwood brakes, custom stainless steel fuel tank, braided fuel and transmission lines, a DeWitts radiator, and a custom Coffman Corvette valve cover.
The interior is customized with Vintage Air conditioning, Dakota Digital gauges, a custom Bluetooth sound system with Memphis amplifiers, leather throughout, reclining custom seats, and an electric hood release.
This Corvette is powered by a GM LS7 427 engine producing 570 horsepower. Paired with a 4L75E 4-speed automatic transmission, everything is in perfect working order. It features a custom Ultimate exhaust system with stainless steel piping.
