In collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training, Honda Vietnam (HVN) is taking significant strides towards achieving the government’s goal of “Zero Road Traffic Fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global vision of “Zero Traffic Collision Fatalities involving Honda Motorcycles and Automobiles” by 2050. As part of this initiative, HVN will distribute 1.8 million high-quality helmets to first-grade students nationwide during the 2025-2026 academic year, alongside comprehensive traffic safety training for students and parents.
This program aims to instill a culture of helmet use among motorcycle riders in Vietnam, ultimately achieving a 100% compliance rate with national safety standards. Additionally, HVN seeks to enhance traffic safety awareness among students and parents through targeted training and communication efforts.
For first-grade students, a critical age for developing safety habits, consistently wearing certified helmets while riding motorcycles is essential. This early foundation is key to fostering lifelong safety practices.
This initiative builds upon the “Helmet Donation Program for First-Grade Students,” launched in 2018 by Honda Vietnam, the National Traffic Safety Committee, and the Ministry of Education and Training. To date, nearly 12 million helmets have been distributed, significantly impacting safety awareness and helmet usage among first-grade students nationwide. Helmet usage among children has risen from 37% (pre-2018) to 85% (2024-2025 academic year).
On October 2, 2025, the program kicked off with a helmet donation and traffic safety training event at Van Bao Primary School in Hanoi, marking the beginning of the 2025-2026 nationwide campaign.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., emphasized, “Our primary goal is to establish helmet use as a standard practice among motorcycle riders in Vietnam. To achieve this, we will continue providing traffic safety training for students and parents, while raising awareness through various communication channels. I am confident that the helmets donated by HVN will become trusted companions, safeguarding our students on every journey.”
During the program, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, outlining the following key commitments:
1. 100% of first-grade students nationwide will receive certified helmets from HVN.
2. Enhanced traffic safety training and risk prevention education for students and parents.
Through the 2025-2026 helmet donation events, over 1.8 million students and 350,000 parents will receive essential traffic safety knowledge and skills. This initiative is a crucial step towards realizing the Vietnamese government’s goal of “ZERO Road Traffic Fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global vision of “ZERO Traffic Collision Fatalities involving Honda Motorcycles and Automobiles” by 2050.
