On average, a car has only an 8.6% chance of reaching 400,000 miles. However, the latest study by iSeeCars.com has identified 30 of the most durable car models with significantly higher odds of hitting this milestone. Leading the list are the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia, which are four times more likely to reach this mark compared to the average. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and Honda Ridgeline are three times more likely to achieve this feat.
iSeeCars’ “Most Durable Cars” study began in 2013. This year, the research team analyzed over 402 million vehicles in the U.S. to determine which models are most likely to last, reaching or exceeding 400,000 miles.
According to iSeeCars’ findings, SUVs dominate the list, with 16 out of the top 30 models. Toyota stands out as the most prominent brand, with 9 models featured. The Toyota Tundra, the most durable model, has a 36.6% chance of reaching 400,000 miles.
“Modern cars are increasingly durable, with 30 models having a 12% to 36% chance of reaching 400,000 miles,” said Karl Brauer, an analyst at iSeeCars. “Many still believe a car’s lifespan ends at 160,000 miles, but our study shows 320,000 miles isn’t the limit. The top 9 models this year all have over a 20% chance of surpassing 400,000 miles.”

As mentioned earlier, SUVs account for more than half of the top 30 most durable cars in 2025, with 16 representatives. Among these, 4 are from Toyota, while Chevrolet, GMC, Honda, and Nissan each have at least 2 SUV models in the top list.
The Toyota Tundra is the most durable car in 2025 in the U.S. market.
Pickup trucks are also well-represented, with 6 full-size and 2 mid-size models. iSeeCars has separately categorized heavy-duty pickup trucks from the main list.
Despite SUVs and pickups dominating, 4 sedan models and 1 hatchback made the list, including 2 hybrids. This shows that buyers don’t necessarily need an SUV or pickup to own a long-lasting vehicle.
“In a context where new and used car prices are rising, it’s encouraging to see so many vehicles capable of reaching 400,000 miles,” added Brauer. “Buyers paying higher prices can still get value for their money if their vehicles last this long.”

Heavy-duty pickup trucks are designed for long-term use, so their dominance in the list is no surprise. Only two non-heavy-duty pickups, the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, made the top 10, highlighting their durability.
“The long lifespan of heavy-duty pickups pushes many light-duty models below average. However, compared to other light-duty trucks, these models still show exceptional durability,” noted Brauer.

SUVs are used for various purposes, from passenger transport to cargo hauling and towing, often accumulating higher mileage than other vehicle types. Most of the most durable SUVs are three-row models, but smaller SUVs are also represented.
“We’re accustomed to seeing the Toyota Sequoia and 4Runner lead the list of most durable SUVs. It’s impressive that smaller models like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Outback also exceed average durability. This reflects their high quality and owner trust,” said Brauer.

Despite SUVs and pickups dominating the market, 11 sedan models have a higher chance of reaching 400,000 miles than average. Toyota, Lexus, and Honda continue to lead, with Nissan Altima as the only non-Toyota/Honda/Lexus model in the top 11.
Toyota dominates the list of most durable sedans.
“Not long ago, a sedan reaching 320,000 miles was rare. Now, 11 sedan models can surpass 400,000 miles. This is great news for buyers seeking value without needing an SUV,” shared Brauer.
“Today’s vehicle longevity reflects the industry’s improved design and manufacturing quality,” he concluded. “Buyers, despite paying record prices, are getting the most durable and reliable vehicles ever.”
Research Methodology
iSeeCars.com analyzed data from over 402 million vehicles. The average mileage for each model was calculated by year, and a predictive model estimated each vehicle’s survival rate at various mileage milestones.
Heavy-duty pickup trucks were analyzed separately. Heavy-duty vans and models with insufficient data were excluded from the main study.
